Responsibilities

Summary:

The Product Owner, Connected Devices & Software Solutions, supports the Senior Product Manager in defining, prioritizing, and executing product enhancements across hardware, firmware, and SaaS components. This role bridges the gap between business goals and technical execution—owning the agile backlog, defining user stories, and coordinating development activities that enable reliable, scalable connected device solutions. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and software, ensuring that product releases are seamless, compliant, and customer-focused.

This role drives delivery excellence across the full connected product lifecycle—enabling reliable device monitoring, firmware updates, and integrated user experiences across platforms. By connecting physical devices with digital services, the Product Owner ensures a unified customer experience, operational efficiency, and recurring revenue growth for Sarnova’s connected ecosystem.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Planning & Execution

  • Collaborate with the Senior Product Manager to translate strategic objectives into actionable hardware, firmware, and software requirements
  • Own and maintain the agile backlog for connected product lines (device firmware, web/app portals, integrations, APIs, manufacturing)
  • Define clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics for cross-platform deliverables
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and bug reviews to ensure alignment and delivery quality
  • Support coordination between software engineering, firmware development, and manufacturing partners to align release timing and version control

Hardware & Firmware Integration

  • Coordinate firmware versioning, deployment schedules, and update testing between engineering, manufacturing, and operations
  • Support validation of new device components, sensors, and connectivity modules through pilot testing and field trials
  • Ensure secure, reliable device-to-cloud communication for ScoutRMS by defining requirements, APIs, and messaging protocols with engineering teams — delivering accurate AED readiness visibility, proactive maintenance alerts, and a seamless customer monitoring experience across large fleets
  • Assist in triaging field issues related to firmware defects, device behavior, or connectivity performance
  • Maintain release notes and change documentation for hardware/firmware versions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain to align product configurations, manufacturing readiness, and release timing
  • Work with Implementation and Support teams to validate field deployment workflows and ensure clear escalation paths for hardware or firmware issues
  • Collaborate with QA and Compliance teams to ensure regulatory requirements (e.g., FCC, ISO, medical device standards) are met
  • Contribute to go-to-market readiness for firmware or hardware updates, including internal documentation and training support

Customer Experience & Data Integrity

  • Gather and synthesize customer feedback on hardware and platform performance to drive backlog prioritization
  • Monitor system uptime, device connectivity rates, and firmware adoption metrics
  • Partner with analytics and customer success to ensure telemetry data is reliable and actionable
  • Drive enhancements that improve install experience, device reliability, and remote monitoring accuracy

Continuous Improvement

  • Support quarterly roadmap planning with insights on backlog health, capacity, and cross-team dependencies
  • Identify opportunities to improve firmware update workflows, device provisioning, and release processes
  • Assist in maintaining end-to-end traceability between hardware configurations, firmware versions, and customer accounts
  • Additional job duties as assigned

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related technical field required
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile certification preferred
  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or related role in SaaS, IoT, or connected device environments
  • Experience collaborating with hardware and firmware teams, ideally in regulated or safety-critical products
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and backlog management (Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts—connectivity, data sync, firmware updates—into clear business requirements
  • Familiarity with device communication protocols (BLE, LTE, MQTT, etc.) a plus
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to data quality and field performance metrics
  • Experience with API integrations, cloud infrastructure, and product telemetry preferred
