Overview:

Valid Ohio drivers license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Childrens Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Job Description Summary:

Assists the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care in the inpatient setting. Aids in processing orders, prepares, and dispensing patient medications. Provides training and education to pharmacists, technicians, and interns, and participates in policies, procedures, evaluations, and operational and financial assessments. Assists in monitoring and developing quality indicators and drug use evaluations, provides input on optimal utilization of time and materials, and must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate patient and pharmaceutical care.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors medication storage within offsite NICUs in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Reviews medication inventory for appropriateness, manages expiring medications, resolves discrepancies, completes regulatory paperwork for destruction
  • Represents Nationwide Children's Hospital at the Host Hospital in the absence of NICU Pharmacist
  • Provides support for host hospital pharmacists and technicians compounding medications for offsite NICU patients, including access requests and technology maintenance
  • Assist in education and initiatives related to compounding of medications for the Host Hospital pharmacy staff

Education Requirement:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bachelors degree, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Registered with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Registered Technician.

Certifications:

Certification by examination as a pharmacy technician (CPhT, ExCPT), required.

Skills:

  • Must demonstrate ongoing Inpatient Pharmacy Tech I competencies, knowledge, and skills minimally.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in pharmacy work environment.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the principles of medication and pharmacy regulatory requirements including USP, the State Board of Pharmacy, and other regulatory agencies are preferred.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience as pharmacy technician, required.
  • 1 year of experience at NCH, preferred.

Physical Requirements:

OCCASIONALLY: Climb stairs/ladder, Communicable Diseases and/or Pathogens, Driving motor vehicles (work required) *additional testing may be required, Fume /Gases /Vapors, Lifting / Carrying: 21-40 lbs
