TITLE: Transportation Secretary
JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Transportation DEPARTMENT: Operations
PAY RANGE: Five (5)
POSITION SUMMARY: To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the Transportation Department so that the department’s maximum positive impact on the education process can be realized.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days (251 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; number of days of vacation, holidays, and salary as determined by Negotiated Agreement. Work year to be established by the Board.
SALARY: starting hourly rate $22.43/HR - $24.83/HR

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
- Three to five years successful experience as a secretary preferred.
- Proficient at using work processing, spreadsheet and database software, excellent keyboarding skills, sound filing practices and familiarity with the operation of common office equipment.
- A positive, professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills.
- An ability to efficiently set priorities for the day, work in a fast-paced environment with strict attention to detail and be adept in multi-tasking.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Processes payroll for all classified department members.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of all payroll related references contained in the Negotiated Agreement.
- Conducts extensive crosschecking between route, field trip and shuttle schedules with time sheets submitted by drivers and bus aides to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Maintains a record of absences and tracks leave balances for all classified department members.
- Maintains all files related to payroll activities.
- Completes and maintains records of daily assignments of summer field trips as prescribed in the Negotiated Agreement.
- Performs dispatcher duties, answers phones and acts as the first point of contact for visitors.
- Communicates with bus drivers on the two-way radio providing valuable, real-time assistance concerning student, traffic and other route issues.
- Maintains a record of bid meeting activities and prepares a summary for inclusion in the Board of Education meeting agenda.
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
- Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
- Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
- Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
- Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
