The Psychiatrist provides comprehensive mental health care to patients in a correctional setting, including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management for individuals with mental health disorders. This role will collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure integrated, evidence-based care. The Psychiatrist will also maintain accurate medical records, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support the overall mental health program within the facility.

This position is On-site, Part Time, 24 hours per week

How YOU can Make an Impact:

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care to those with disorders such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and others.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans, based on patients' unique needs. Update treatment plans based on ongoing evaluations.

  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as part of treatment plans. Conduct regular reviews to assess treatment plans.

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations to diagnose mental health conditions and determine the appropriate course of treatment.

  • Provide psychiatric crisis intervention for inmates experiencing acute mental health episodes or emotional distress.

  • Offer individual and group psychotherapy sessions.

  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients with complex mental health and medical needs.

  • Provide mental health education to inmates, correctional staff, and other personnel, to help reduce stigma surrounding mental illness.

  • Document promptly and properly.

  • Conduct regular risk assessments for suicidal ideation, violent behavior, and other potential harm.

  • Ensure informed consent for treatment and patient confidentiality, and adhere to ethical guidelines set forth by psychiatric governing bodies.

  • Provide expert psychiatric consultation to other healthcare providers and correctional staff as appropriate.

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts to improve patient care.

  • Provide supervision and guidance to psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, and other behavioral health staff.

  • Conduct training for correctional staff to help recognize signs of mental illness and how to interact with inmates with mental health issues.

  • Provide on-call services as needed, including after-hours psychiatric care for inmates experiencing psychiatric crises or severe distress.

  • Collaborate with correctional officers and facility leadership to ensure psychiatric services are provided in a safe and secure environment.

What we Ask of YOU:

  • A current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Successful completion of Residency in Psychiatry.

  • Must hold--or be willing to obtain--a current, valid DEA Registration.

  • Board Certification in Psychiatry is preferred; training or experience in Forensic Psychiatry is helpful.

  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required prior to start date (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
