About the Role
The Director of Technology serves as the top technical leader for analyzer development within a major Process Instruments business. You’ll own the long-term technology roadmap, align product strategy with market needs, and advance innovation across spectroscopy, laser sensing, chemometrics, sensor design, and advanced electronics.
This role blends strategic vision, hands-on technical depth, and industry visibility.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with Product Management to define future capabilities and translate application needs into actionable technical plans.
- Lead the technology roadmap for analyzers and application development.
- Introduce new engineering approaches across electrical, electronic, and chemical design.
- Ensure new platforms meet expectations for time-to-market, reliability, manufacturability (DfM), serviceability (DfS), scalability, and Stage-Gate quality.
- Protect company IP by documenting proprietary designs and supporting patent development.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert for analyzer performance—troubleshooting complex design issues and assessing obsolescence risks.
- Guide innovation from early ideation through Alpha, Beta, and final release.
- Represent the company externally by presenting at conferences, publishing technical papers, and strengthening market leadership.
What You Bring
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 5+ years post-doctoral industry experience developing analytical instrumentation or supporting chemical manufacturing, refining, or laboratory environments
- Strong knowledge of chemical instrumentation, including:
- Absorption spectroscopy (UV, NIR, IR)
- Laser-based methods (WMS/FMS)
- Chromatography
- Electrochemistry
- Advanced sensor technologies
- Hands-on experience with electronics, data acquisition, and low-current measurement (10–10 amps)
- Proficiency in chemometrics (PCA, PCR, PLS)
