Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Provide comprehensive ophthalmic evaluations, including diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, refractive errors, and visual disorders.
Manage and treat conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and other anterior and posterior segment diseases.
Perform in-office diagnostic testing and interpret results, including OCT, visual fields, topography, and ultrasound as needed.
Prescribe medications, therapies, and vision-care solutions aligned with best practice guidelines.
Surgical Responsibilities
Perform cataract surgery and postoperative care; experience with advanced technology IOLs (ATIOLs) is preferred.
Conduct minor in-office surgical procedures (e.g., YAG capsulotomy, SLT, lesion removal).
Evaluate and manage surgical complications and coordinate additional surgical intervention when necessary.
Collaborate closely with surgical coordinators and technicians to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional patient experience.
Patient Experience & Communication
Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment options, surgical expectations, and postoperative care.
Build strong patient relationships with a compassionate, clear, and thorough communication style.
Provide co-management guidance to referring optometrists and maintain strong professional relationships within the community.
Team Collaboration
Work alongside optometrists, technicians, scribes, and administrative staff to support seamless clinic operations.
Participate in case discussions, clinical reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support training and development of clinical staff as needed.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR system.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, coding guidelines, and practice policies.
Follow established protocols for patient safety, infection control, and HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
Completion of an ACGME-accredited Ophthalmology residency program.
Board-Certified or Board-Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Active or eligible state medical license.
Strong clinical and surgical competence in comprehensive ophthalmology.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient-service skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with premium cataract surgery (toric, multifocal, extended-depth-of-focus lenses).
Interest in growing surgical volume and building long-term patient relationships.
Comfort working in a high-volume clinical setting.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented, patient-centered practice.
Work Environment & Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday clinical schedule (no major holidays; call requirements vary by practice).
