The City of Marysville is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and experienced leader to serve as Parks & Recreation Superintendent . This pivotal executive management position will lead the Division in the planning, direction, and management of high-quality parks, facilities, and inclusive programming, thereby enhancing the community's quality of life. The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing staff, managing the budget, and advising the Public Service Director and City Manager concerning city parks, recreation, and community events. Strategic Leadership and Impact
The Superintendent is responsible for executing the Citys comprehensive vision for recreation and open space development, which specifically entails leading the implementation of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This comprehensive plan, finalized in July 2025, emphasizes maximizing inclusive community engagement, developing a dynamic action plan centered on enhancing existing core services and addressing facility deficits (such as additional trails, indoor recreation space, and programs tailored for adolescents and older adults), and cultivating organizational excellence and financial sustainability.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Directs the maintenance of all parks, facilities, grounds, City Pool operations, and the upkeep of Oakdale Cemetery.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and evaluate a diverse team, including the Recreation/Event Manager and the Urban Forester, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
- Fiscal Oversight: Prepare, administer, and monitor the Divisions budget, ensuring effective use of human resources and equipment.
- Community Relations: Serve as the public face of the Division, effectively responding to citizen inquiries, concerns, and serving as the subject matter expert to City leadership.
Qualifications
Experience : Five (5) years of experience in public service, grounds/turf and parks maintenance, recreation, or events including three (3) years of management experience.
Education: A bachelor's degree in grounds/turf maintenance, park maintenance, recreation management, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
Certification/Licensing:
- Required Licensing: Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within twelve (12) months of appointment.
- Certifications (Required or to be obtained within a specified timeframe):
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification, or the ability to obtain within two (2) years of appointment.
- Certified Playground Inspector Certification, or the ability to obtain within three (3) years of appointment.
- Ohio commercial pesticide applicator's license, or the ability to obtain within three (3) years of appointment.
- Certified Pool/Spa Operator Certification, or the ability to obtain within three (3) years of appointment.
Compensation & Benefits
This is an exempt, salaried position with a competitive benefits package and a compensation range of $75,000 to $100,000 , commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications.
