The Job Details are as follows: The Director of Resource Sharing will lead all aspects of the planning and development of services that help libraries share their collections. Libraries end user expectations are being influenced by the products and services they use outside of the library (e.g. Amazon, Google, and ChatGPT). Library users expect fast access to anything, anywhere, anytime. Libraries are looking to OCLC to help them enable seamless, fast, and transparent fulfillment and delivery experiences for their users. You will lead the transformation of OCLCs Resource Sharing products to enable libraries to provide these great experiences for their users. To meet this need, automating and streamlining library processes and workflows will be critical. You will work closely with the global community to reinvent resource sharing workflows, which will greatly improve fill rates and significantly cut average delivery times.This role also provides critical input to the product marketing team in product release and promotional efforts.
The Director of Resource Sharing is accountable for the following deliverables:
Product strategy, roadmaps, annual product plans, business cases, and monthly product reviews, launch plans, white papers, product presentations, market messaging, event support, competitive write-up and user personas, customer collaboration/workshops.
Additionally, this role contributes to the production of: Portfolio business plans, strategies, roadmaps, metrics, and operational plans; portfolio progress plans and reviews
Responsibilities:
Financial:
- Responsible for increasing the revenue and profitability of the resource sharing line of business
Product Strategy and Planning:
- Oversees product team accountable for OCLCs resource sharing products and services including WorldShare ILL, Tipasa, ILLiad, Resource Sharing for Groups, Relais D2D, Relais ILL, and VDX.
- Oversees market analysis and develops product strategy and business cases to grow revenue and rationalize the product portfolio. Defines strategic product goals.
- Accountable for creating and driving execution of the product roadmap
- Collaborates on release plans with Development
- Collaborates with finance in the production of product budgets and forecasts
- Develops pricing strategies in partnership with finance and product positioning plans which contribute to maximizing product profitability
- Partners with the community to ensure priorities align with customer needs and expectations.
- S trong understanding of competitive products and market dynamics and quickly adapts strategies and plans to ensure success.
Leadership and Management:
- Leads and mentors a product management team of ~5 team members.
- Provides leadership to cross-functional product workgroups. Leads Product management meetings. Resolves conflicts and drives consensus.
- Facilitates collaboration and communication and secures commitment between Development and Product Management and other divisional workgroups towards achievement of common goals.
- Develops and monitors progress on product roadmap
Product Marketing Partnership and Consultation:
- Assists in the development of strategies for customer acquisition and retention in partnership with product marketing; manages relationships with user groups and assists sales team in generation of product presentations.
- Understands how and when to commission market research in order to develop and maintain expertise in markets served, alternative services, new technology, and related standards.
- Can generate appropriate information for market sizes by sector / territory and can generate market penetration statistics.
- Provides training and support to the sales and support team; may assist in significant sales calls.
- Analyzes reasons for OCLC product wins and losses against competition and can provide meaningful information to aid product planning.
- Will work to define and rationalize user personas
- Will produce market/sector white papers
Consultation on Portfolio Planning:
- Provides input into portfolio business plans, roadmaps, strategies, metrics, and progress reports and reviews
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
- 10+years experience in product, project or program management
- Strong understanding of resource sharing practices and workflows
- Progressive experience leading product management teams.
- Well developed communication and presentation skills
- Strong understanding of the Product Management Lifecycle model
- Demonstrated ability with Financial planning and financial forecasting
- Demonstrated knowledge of AI tools
Desired but not Required:
- 5 plus years experience in library services, library management systems, or related experience working in an eCommerce/logistics environment.
- Experience with running design thinking workshops
- Experience leveraging machine learning techniques to solve problems
- High-level understanding of Z39.50, NCIP, ISO18626, APIs, and federated authentication
- High-level knowledge of shipping logistics and optimization
