Tax Accountant – Public Accounting & Compliance Expertise

We are an expanding CPA firm looking for a seasoned Tax Accountant with extensive experience in U.S. and New York State tax compliance. This position is best suited for a professional who excels in a dynamic public accounting environment, demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, and is dedicated to delivering outstanding client service.

Core Responsibilities

• Prepare and review individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns

• Oversee and verify bookkeeping completed by junior staff to ensure accuracy of financial records

• Manage and review sales tax filings and payroll tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, with emphasis on New York State requirements

• Partner with colleagues to provide year-round tax planning and advisory services

• Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, offering technical expertise and support

• Communicate directly with clients to address tax and compliance matters

Required Qualifications

• At least 7 years of recent public accounting experience, primarily focused on tax preparation and compliance

• Demonstrated ability to review bookkeeping, sales tax, and payroll tax filings

• In-depth knowledge of U.S. Federal and New York State tax laws and regulations

• CPA license preferred (or actively pursuing)

• Proficiency with tax software (ProSeries, Lacerte, or similar), QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
