The Lichen Research and Art Project is a group of faculty, staff and students working in the Living Art and Ecology Lab at The Ohio State University. We are learning with lichens and drawing inspiration from their symbiotic lifestyles. Our process includes spending time with them, reading about them, involving scientists, conducting workshops, creating artworks, organizing exhibitions, symposiums, developing technological interfaces, and ethical protocols.
The Lead Technical Artist will collaborate with faculty and students in the Living Art and Ecology Lab to develop immersive virtual reality experiences for the Lichen Metaverse project. This role integrates artistic vision with technical execution, focusing on 3D character design, animation, and environmental storytelling using tools such as Unity, Maya, Blender, and Cinema 4D. The artist will contribute to the creation of symbiotic narratives and non-human worlds, supporting interdisciplinary research and creative expression.
This is a temporary, part-time, grant funded position that will end on or before December 31, 2025.
