Logistics Coordinator

Graham Media Group in market No. 15 Orlando, Fla., is looking for a curious news gatherer and quick-thinking problem solver to be our next Logistics Coordinator on weekend afternoons and three days a week!

This modernized approach to a traditional newsroom assignment desk editor prioritizes both active news gathering and helping our WKMG newsroom team respond effectively to breaking news and major news of the day. This Logistics Coordinator will also play a leading role on our weekend team, helping News 6 execute competitive coverage at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The best people for this role are competitive news gatherers who like to get information/answers first -- and accurate/attributed at the same time. They have some knowledge of Central Florida or Florida geography and its communities. And they love to work the phones, emails and sources, sometimes under the pressure of deadlines, to quickly get new information into the newsroom and on to our viewers.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Logistics Coordinators at News 6 work closely with our Planning Editor and are linchpins in our daily newsroom operations, ensuring resources are prioritized and assigned to support the content gathering needs according to story and platform. Logistics Coordinators handle and track field crews, solve logistical challenges and work with newsroom leaders and station engineers to ensure field equipment is operational. They also monitor many local sources for potential stories, new information or breaking news, and are the chief communicators to the newsroom on these developing updates. Logistics Coordinators also build relationships with front-facing "first responders" in public safety and government fields, as well as sources in these same fields, and community stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prioritize and allocate resources strategically to support priority content creation and distribution across platforms.
• Coordinate field crews, providing real-time updates on their status and location to optimize coverage and response times.
• Monitor email, websites, and social media sources for stories, new information, or breaking news.
• Work newsroom phones, emails, and text systems to confirm information, set up interviews, and communicate updates and changes to field crews and inhouse teams.
• Work with the Planning Editor to plan future day-of coverage as well as major projects scheduled in advance.
• Update digital reporting with new information on digital platforms.
• Collaborate with news operations and engineering departments to monitor and manage field equipment.
• Crosstrain to work with LiveU backpacks and associated grid; also, be able to punch up/record live shots, live pictures, and video feeds.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Exceptional organizational skills, with a focused attention to details, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
• Innate problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and resolving issues with innovative solutions.
• Technically savvy, with a thorough understanding of the technological needs and challenges of field operations.
• Experience in working productively with small and large teams.
• Strong communication skills, ensuring clear and effective coordination between departments and teams.
• Composed and decisive under pressure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in a role requiring logistic coordination in a medium or large broadcast market, such as an engineer, photographer, producer or multimedia journalist.
