Job Summary
Job Description
For over 40 years, Lifelong has been delivering nourishment and dignity to people living with chronic and life-altering illnesses such as HIV, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. We work to optimize health and well-being for some of our most vulnerable neighbors across Washington State by providing nutritious food, culturally appropriate and medically tailored meals, and critical health resources. Lifelong strengthens this mission with wraparound supportive services that include HIV care and prevention, housing support and referrals, food and nutritional counseling, dental services, health insurance support, and aging and disabilities assistance.
Under new leadership, Lifelong is entering an exciting new period of growth and expansion – and we are seeking a highly organized, strategic, and collaborative Grants Manager to help drive that growth.
This role plays a pivotal part in securing both foundation and governmental funding for Lifelong’s programs. The Grants Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of grant and RFP processes—from identifying and cultivating funders, to writing and submitting compelling proposals, to managing post-award compliance and reporting.
This position requires both the relationship-building finesse of a nonprofit grants professional, and the project management discipline needed to coordinate complex responses to government Requests for Proposals (RFPs). The successful candidate will thrive in managing multiple concurrent deadlines, ensuring high-quality and compliant submissions, and collaborating across departments to bring Lifelong’s work to life in writing.
The Grants Manager reports to the CFO/COO and works closely with the CEO and program leaders. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt, non-union hybrid position with a salary range of $28.85/hr - $38.46/hr, and requires 3 days a week on-site in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.
Qualifications
Essential Duties:
Foundation and Institutional Grant Management
- Develop a deep understanding of Lifelong’s mission, programs, and strategic priorities to create compelling, funder-aligned proposals.
- Build and steward relationships with foundation program officers and institutional funders to better understand funding priorities and identify areas of alignment.
- Write, edit, and submit persuasive proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports that communicate Lifelong’s impact and vision.
- Analyze declined proposals and proactively engage funders for feedback to strengthen future submissions.
Government Funding and RFP Management
- Lead the development, coordination, and timely submission of responses to governmental RFPs, renewals, and funding requests.
- Serve as project manager for complex proposals—establishing timelines, managing internal workflows, and coordinating input from multiple subject matter experts and stakeholders.
- Ensure all proposals are compliant with funder requirements and organizational standards.
- Coordinate cross-departmental collaboration between program, finance, and leadership staff to produce complete, accurate, and competitive submissions.
- Track and manage multiple deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements in Instruments/Salesforce.
Strategic and Operational Support
- Research and identify new public and private funding opportunities that align with Lifelong’s mission and growth priorities.
- Maintain an up-to-date calendar of applications, renewals, and reporting deadlines.
- Prepare concise summaries, forecasts, and progress reports for leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality of proposal data and contracts.
- Lead regular meetings with the CEO and CFO/COO to discuss upcoming and proposed funding opportunities, align priorities, and provide progress updates.
Core Competencies:
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editing skills—able to translate complex programmatic work into clear, persuasive, and inspiring proposals.
- Strong project management abilities, with proven success coordinating multi-departmental RFP or grant submissions.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; thrives in managing multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with funders, program officers, and internal partners.
- Solid understanding of government grants and contracts, including compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
- Analytical thinker who seeks and acts on feedback to continuously improve submissions and strategies.
- Proficient in research tools and CRM systems such as Instramentl and Salesforce.
- Collaborative and adaptable team player committed to equity, inclusion, and Lifelong’s mission.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline required.
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in grants and contracts management, preferably in a nonprofit, human services, or healthcare organization.
- Demonstrated success managing both private foundation grants and government RFP processes.
- Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder projects with tight deadlines.
Work Environment:
- Full-time position with a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days in office in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Occasional travel to organizational sites or funder meetings within Washington State.
- Any offer of employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check. Some programs may require additional background checks or frequency.
- This position operates in a professional office environment and requires extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required to support office or event needs. The role may also involve occasional attendance at events or activities that take place outside of normal office settings or standard business hours.
Benefits:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
- Generous vacation (3 weeks your first year), sick leave, and 2 personal days a year
- 401(k) match
- Flexible spending accounts
