Secondary Band / Choir Teacher

Alma Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dynamic 5–12 Band / 7–12 Music Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This is not just another teaching position. The Alma music program is one of the most successful programs in Nebraska regardless of school classification.  The Alma Public School District has approximately 400 PK-12 grade students.

About Our Community. Alma is a welcoming community of approximately 1,250 residents located on the northern shore of Harlan County Lake, a regional hotspot for hunting, fishing, hiking, and outdoor recreation. The ideal candidate will: Inspire students through engaging instruction in instrumental and vocal music; Demonstrate strong classroom management, organization, and performance direction skills; Foster positive relationships with students, families, and the community;  Continue the rich tradition of excellence in marching band, pep band, and concert performances; Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the overall culture of Alma Public Schools.  Appropriate Nebraska certification is required. 

Class periods are 51 minutes long (Monday -Thursday) and 41 minutes long on Activity Days (usually Fridays and before most vacations)

School Day Length: 8:00 a.m. to 3:41 p.m. (Monday -Thursday) & Fridays, 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

School Year Length: Teachers are contracted for 183 days (178 student days & 5 teacher workdays). The school year usually starts in mid August runs hrough mid May.

Vacation days during the school year: Fall Break (1 day), Thanksgiving (3 days), Christmas (approximately two weeks depending on the calendar), Winter Break (1 day), Spring Break (Two consectutive weekends for 2 1/2 days each), Easter Break (2 days.)

Teaching duties will include the following: One period of: 9-12 Band, 7-8 Band, 5/6 Band, 9-12 Vocal, 7-8 Vocal for aprroximately 25 minutes 2-3 days a week.  Extra duty opportunities may be available.

Salary:  Placement on the 2026-2027 Salary Schedule.  All previous years of experience and education will be accepted.  Salary potential ranges from aprroximately $45,000 to $77,000.
