Responsibilities
- Collect and test samples of ingredients, products, or packages according to established procedures.
- Conduct tests including pH, viscosity, titrations, product color via colorimeter, density, acid, salt, and sensory evaluation of product-taste, aroma, and appearance versus control sample.
- Perform quality checks on the production floor, including verifying the accuracy of unit codes (bottle codes) and case codes, ensuring proper application of correct unit labels and case labels, weighing samples, metal detector checks, and conducting periodic inspections to ensure sanitary conditions.
- Monitor processes to ensure they are operating correctly and consistently.
- Document all results neatly and precisely.
- Label and maintain product retention samples used to monitor the product throughout the established shelf life.
- Organize collected data for management review.
- Maintain lab equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Communicate non-compliant results immediately to management.
- Monitor plant for compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Accurately weigh ingredients, colors, flavorings, and seasonings.
- Test Research & Development samples for food safety and specification development.
- Conduct other duties, as assigned by the plant QA Supervisor or QA Manager.
Essential Skills
- Experience in wet chemistry and wet chemistry lab
- Quality lab technician skills
- Quality control and quality assurance expertise preferred
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Science, or non-degreed with one year of wet chemistry lab experience.
The candidate needs to be comfortable with the lab being loud and having strong food smells. The culture of the lab is very team-oriented and has a family feel to it. The lab is small, and the candidate will be working alongside a few other technicians and reporting to the supervisor. Business casual.
