ABOUT THE ROLE
A leading health insurance carrier on the West Coast is seeking a highly skilled Actuarial Analyst III to support its Provider Contracting division. This is an advanced actuarial role focused on delivering complex financial analyses that inform critical business decisions related to provider arrangements, cost forecasting, Medicaid programs, and rate development.
This position is ideal for an experienced actuarial professional who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment and brings a strategic mindset to problem-solving. You'll work alongside a team of analysts, actuaries, and healthcare professionals to shape rate strategies, assess risk, and enhance the financial performance of Medicaid and other government-funded programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform detailed financial analyses to support provider contract negotiations and evaluations.
Build and refine actuarial models for forecasting, cost projections, and risk assessments.
Conduct statistical and regression analyses to interpret healthcare utilization patterns and financial trends.
Support rate review and rate setting processes for Medicaid and related lines of business.
Develop data visualizations, reports, and presentations to communicate complex actuarial findings to stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including provider contracting, finance, underwriting, and compliance.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Medicaid regulations and managed care payment models.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
3+ years of actuarial experience within the health insurance or managed care industry.
Completion of 4 or more Society of Actuaries (SOA) exams; ASA designation or active pursuit preferred.
Solid understanding of Medicaid programs and the regulatory environment surrounding rate setting and reviews.
Strong technical and analytical skills, with advanced proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate data into actionable insights.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for technical and non-technical audiences.
DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Experience working on provider contracting analytics or value-based payment models.
Familiarity with actuarial software and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, R, Python, SAS).
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
