Mechanical Integrity (MI) Engineer

This is an exempt-level position. Ideal work locations for this position include:

  • Nebraska - Columbus or Fremont
  • Missouri - Mexico or Deerfield
  • Indiana - Frankfort

This is not a remote work opportunity, and the individual must report into an ADM site for work.

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer plays a key role in managing and advancing the mechanical integrity of fixed equipment across six primary facilities, with additional support provided to other sites as needed. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily activities such as coordinating inspections, repairs, and installations of fixed equipment
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining a robust Mechanical Integrity program

As a member of the corporate Asset Integrity team, this position collaborates closely with EHS teams, Reliability Engineers, facility staff, and third-party contractors to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.

This position requires up to 30% domestic travel, plus Canada.

Flexibility in work hours is sometimes required for turn arounds, emergency repairs, special projects, etc.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Mechanical Integrity Program

  • Develop, implement, and maintain mechanical integrity programs tailored to applicable facilities

  • Support for Fixed Equipment Activities

  • Direct and oversee third-party contractors as needed

  • Analyze inspection and testing results, ensuring corrective actions or future PMs are properly addressed in collaboration with facility and corporate teams (e.g., maintenance, safety, reliability engineers, and subject matter experts)

  • Work with SMEs to establish inspection and repair plans aligned with relevant damage mechanisms and applicable codes/standards (e.g., ASME, API)

  • Contribute to design, specification, and construction activities related to fixed equipment

  • Compliance and Standards Integration

  • Ensure API, ASME, NFPA, NBIC, and other applicable standards and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEPs) are integrated into the Mechanical Integrity program, particularly for inspection and repair activities

  • Support or lead Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) implementation efforts as applicable

  • Define and implement best practices for inspection and repair documentation, record storage, and tracking

  • Develop procedures for equipment inspections and tests to ensure compliance

  • Audit and Qualification Management

  • Lead or support Mechanical Integrity compliance auditing efforts at plant sites

  • Ensure third-party inspectors and repair contractors meet necessary qualifications and certifications

  • Knowledge Development

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and RAGAGEPs, including OSHA 1910.119, Local Boiler and Pressure Vessel Laws, ASME Section VIII, API 510, API 570, API 653, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or institution
  • Minimum of 3+ years in an industrial facility MI, Maintenance, Reliability, or similar role
  • A valid driver's license and United States Passport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and RAGAGEPs (ASME Section VIII, API 510, 570, 653)
  • Good decision-making ability and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Products and Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work in a team environment; team environment will be in person and remotely
  • Must be customer focused and be proactive in dealing with conflict, influencing others, listening, management of priorities, organization & planning, partnering, and utilizing a proactive approach to reliability
  • Candidate must be self-driven to recognize, prioritize, and resolve action items
  • Training and familiarity in API, ASME, NBIC and other industry standards and RAGAGEPs
  • Familiar with various NDE techniques
  • Certified as an API or welding inspector
  • Experience with fixed equipment maintenance, inspection, and repair guidance
  • Experience with working and coordinating with 3rd party inspection and repair organizations
  • Experience with material science, corrosion, and fitness for service
  • Knowledge of OSHA PSM requirements
