Job Summary

The Test Engineering Technician Supervisor position directs a specialized team of Test Technicians in conducting design validation testing for Vertiv's Power product portfolio at our Delaware, Ohio facility. The role encompasses comprehensive oversight of Power laboratory operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and maintaining facility excellence through our 5S methodology.

As a people leader, this position develops and mentors direct reports while collaborating with Test Engineers to optimize daily resource allocation and workflow management. The Supervisor drives operational excellence through strategic planning and execution of capital and operating budgets, equipment maintenance programs, and annual asset optimization reviews. This includes ensuring full compliance with calibration standards and quality management systems.

Key leadership responsibilities include conducting performance evaluations, talent acquisition, progressive discipline administration, compensation planning, and maintaining comprehensive safety training documentation for all laboratory personnel. The role serves as a critical interface during customer witness testing events, orchestrating technical resources, audiovisual capabilities, and safety compliance to deliver exceptional customer experiences that reinforce Vertiv's position as an industry leader.

This position requires a strategic mindset combined with hands-on leadership capabilities to drive both technical excellence and team development within our engineering laboratory environment.

This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Delaware, OH campus location.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day laboratory operations, including daily workload planning, resource allocation, and test execution oversight to achieve product development goals.
  • Direct and mentor Test Technicians team, ensuring proper training, safety compliance, and professional development while overseeing test results and reporting quality.
  • Manage lab facilities, equipment, and resources, including maintenance scheduling, calibration processes, and capital/operational expense planning.

Product Testing

  • Conduct a daily stand-up meeting to review the daily workload and assign Test Technicians.
  • Direct day-to-day activities of the Test Technicians.
  • Walk through the labs several times a day to verify work is progressing, test bays are operating safely, and test bays are adhering to 5S.
  • Work with Test Engineers to design special test fixtures
  • Assist with troubleshooting of failing test cases and/or test equipment.

Lab Facilities

  • Schedule repair for equipment when needed.
  • Schedule downtime for all technicians for 5S and Safety activities to maintain the test labs.
  • Assist with developing yearly capital & operational expense plan and track the spend quarterly.
  • Schedule time to cycle test equipment through the calibration process & trace calibration certification to the unit(s) under test.

Employee Development

  • Conduct 1-on-1 performance reviews with each Test Technician as per the company policy.
    • Schedule brief 1-on-1 conversation with each Test Technician more frequent than the official company policy.
  • Schedule & Maintain the safety training records for all employees that use the test bays.
  • Schedule equipment training periodically and as needed.
  • Contribute to the merit cycle.

Process Improvement

  • Present ideas on how to improve the facilities efficiency and how to improve the test process.
  • Identify cycle time metrics and improvements for standard lab activities.
  • Conduct Lessons Learned meetings with the Test Engineers and Test Technicians.

Requirements :

  • B.S, in Engineering or equivalent process and managerial experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with new product development processes and expectations.
  • Strong focus on personal interaction and coordination with technicians to build rapport and improving performance.
  • Well versed on tools and techniques to properly plan, track test activities and to ensure products are thoroughly tested.
  • Strong ability to recognize and willingness to investigate and evaluate alternative practices.
  • Ability to interface with customers and to demonstrate product performance/compliance relative to customer needs.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Meet or exceed new product development and new product introduction requirements and deadlines.
  • Adequately address and resolve through interaction with human resources, employee relations issues, performance issues, succession planning, etc.
  • Sign off on test results and product release readiness.
  • Meet goals and objectives as outlined by business leaders
