Job Summary:

 The Department of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Teacher Education, with a concentration in Early Childhood and Literacy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12 credits per semester.
  • Teach early childhood and elementary education courses including elementary literacy methods (based in the science of reading) on campus and online.
  • Serve as program lead for the Birth-Grade 3 License Early Childhood Education (ECED) including maintenance of and compliance with accreditation through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and support for ECED adjunct instructors.
  • Advise and mentor students in the Elementary Education Birth to Grade 3 License Program.
  • Participate in program development and oversight of elementary education majors and early childhood minor.
  • Provide an on-campus presence to meet with and to serve students, and to work with colleagues in the department and across campus to fulfill service roles.
  • Collaborate with local educational institutions and programs including PK-12 schools and childcare centers.
  • Engage in scholarship in field(s) of academic expertise.
  • Engage in program, departmental, university, and community service.

 

Other Duties:

  • Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate in education
  • Eligible for the equivalent of a Wisconsin Birth-Grade 3 license (Early Childhood licensure as a teacher)  Link to WI Department of Public Instruction General License information
  • Eligible for the Wisconsin Reading Specialist Teaching License  Link to WI Department of Public Instruction Specialized Content License information
  • Minimum three years teaching experience in Preschool-Grade 3 school setting, in U.S. schools or U.S.-based schools.
  • Demonstrated concentration in the science of reading through professional training, teaching, or scholarship.
  • Active engagement in professional practice with PK-12 schools and childcare centers, professional organizations, and/or other education-related endeavors at the local, state, or national level.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with the science of learning legislation, similar to Wisconsin’s Act 20.  Link about Wisconsin’s Act 20
  • Experience with university-level teaching in teacher preparation programs, including online instruction.
  • Experience collaborating with PK-12 schools for field placements, clinical placements, or residencies.

 

Compensation: Salary range for this position is: $56,000 - $62,000 annually.
