The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department ( at The Ohio State University invite applications for a Professional Practice Professor candidate at the Associate Professor or Professor level appointment in the area of Manufacturing Engineering. The research area must complement the current research portfolio. This position will start as early as Fall Semester of 2026.?
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will be able to teach a variety of topics in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum related to the professional practice of Manufacturing Engineering. The position is teaching focused, however, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform scholarly activity in a related area of interest, such as novel curriculum development, engineering education, or another research area consistent with their background and the professional practice of Manufacturing Engineering. Sponsorship will be offered if an international candidate is selected.
Performance Objectives
- Contribute to teaching and scholarly activities in the Mechanical and Integrated Systems Engineering programs related to the practice of Manufacturing Engineering
- Participate in service to the university and the profession of engineering with a focus on education and professional practice related to Manufacturing Engineering
- Teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Develop and support a portfolio of impactful scholarly activities related to the practice of manufacturing Engineering
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
- Education: Doctorate (academic) or equivalent combination of education and academic experience with a major in Mechanical or Integrated Systems Engineering or a closely related field
- Scholarly Impact: Demonstrated history of impactful scholarly activity that has strong potential for continued success. Scholarly impact may be reflected in either pedagogical excellence, disciplinary excellence, or a combination of the two, with a focus and emphasis on manufacturing engineering education and practice.
- Proven Leadership and Collaboration: We seek individuals with a demonstrated track record of leadership and collaboration in a professional or academic environment related to manufacturing.
- Advanced Teaching and Mentoring Skills: The candidate should possess teaching and mentoring skills within a professional context including the ability to improve the curriculum in their area of expertise and create new courses where appropriate. These should include candidate demonstrated experience developing and teaching courses or leading technical professional education programs related to manufacturing engineering. The candidate should also have demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising students or recent graduates in academic and/or professional setting(s)
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with a focus on working constructively, decisively, and collegially with both external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams. A clear and insightful vision of this position within the Ohio State College of Engineering community as well as local, regional, and national manufacturing partners is an important requirement for this appointment.
