As the floating systems/structural integrity engineer you will provide your expertise to the operations, including maintenance, inspection, anomaly management, repairs, brownfield projects, and minor modifications. In addition, you will proactively interact with other disciplines, execution teams, and contractors to systematically resolve problems and apply sound engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic and cost efficient solutions on risk management, integrity of our asset, operation efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization.
This is a bp staff position based in Houston, TX.
Key Responsibilities
Being an integrated member of the Gulf of America (GoA) Integrity Management (IM) team to manage regional floating assets integrity to deliver the companys safety and business goals.
Delivering the regional floating systems and structural integrity management plans for supported assets based on company guidance and industry codes. Owning the asset floating systems and structural inspection scoping, monitoring, maintenance, and repair strategies to determine the facility's current condition.
Being the owner of the floating systems and structural performance standards of the supported facilities. Assessing whether the facility meets the performance standards in its current condition, following company guidance and industry codes.
Reporting significant deterioration in structural conditions or any deviation from the performance standards through the company Anomaly Assessment and Tracking tool and process and timely presenting the risks to the appropriate level following the operation dashboard, emerging risk process, and risk assurance tool as appropriate.
Being accountable for defining the floating systems and structural engineering scope of work for brownfield and minor modification projects. Providing technical assurance for third-party engineering deliveries and maintaining relationships with third-party providers and contractors. Being the engineer to provide fit-for-purpose solutions for structural modifications or repairs from anomalies and inspection findings.
Actively working with the onshore and offshore teams, including but not limited to offshore marine team leaders, site engineers, Integrity Management Execution (IMX) specialists, and others to timely address operational concerns.
Ensuring design and operations follow industry codes and bp's technical practices and performance standards, assessing the impact of significant changes in load (weight) or changes to operating conditions on the integrity of the assets. Approving the weight changes on the platform in accordance with company policy to maintain floater stability.
Supporting the regional severe weather evacuation preparation and post-hurricane or winter storm inspection. Monitoring the platform performance using the marine monitoring systems and data to ensure the floaters operate within the safe operation limits.
Driving efforts to ensure floating systems (condition, operation, or metocean) risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable operating results, effectively communicating risks to business and technical partners.
Actively contributing to the floating system's Community of Practice and sharing standard processes and findings.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
Degree in civil/structural engineering, or related field
Professional engineer, or near professional status in closely aligned discipline, or evidence of progression towards full professional status.
Capable of communicating both verbally and in writing clearly and succinctly.
Proven industry experience in offshore floating structures topside design, construction, operations, and integrity management.
Knowledge of discipline-related industry standards (API 2FPS, 2FSIM, 2A-WSD, and AISC WSD) and class codes (ABS or DNV).
Good digital skills and experience of navigating different tools and database to aide daily work
A minimum of 10 years of related experience especially the operations experience.
Flexibility to travel offshore per business needs (10%).
The individual must be highly motivated and a self-starter.
Desirable criteria
Master of science in engineering field
Experience in management of change, risk assessment, maintenance and repair strategies.
Experience in applying risk-based methodology for platform inspection and anomaly management.
Construction yard experience is a plus.
