Job Description


As a Billing Liaison, expectations of the role include but not limited to:

  • Enters payments and provides analysis for various payers on a daily basis.
  • Acts as backup liaison to unit directors and divisions in resolving client and third-party questions as needed.
  • Works closely with responsible program staff to ensure accurate data entry as needed.
  • Supports programs in elimination of suspense and rejection items related to billing and collectables daily.
  • Processes insurance payments to patient accounts in computerized system.
  • Completes variance analysis of billing and payments monthly.
  • Re-bills insurance companies or other third parties to secure payment for patients.
  • Verifies all entries made by other departments and makes corrections if necessary.
  • Trains appropriate personnel in computerized billing system.
  • After system generation of paper invoices, reviews the 1500 form for all payers for accuracy prior to submission for payment daily. Submits all paper invoices to the appropriate carrier daily.
  • Prepares edits and updates re-submission batches for rebilling as they occur.
  • Provides support to supervisor in the handling of the special projects to regulate back billing and service recovery as needed.
  • Provides summary analysis of the statistics from various programs including summaries of admissions and discharges, service usage, billing details, etc. daily.
  • Acts as liaison with insurance payers to resolve billing matters and ensure receipt of payment,
  • Centralized support for programs in ensuring client liability is effectively managed and monitored to support revenue generation for services provided as needed.

What is Expected of YOU

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in patient accounting and two years of working in a mental health environment.
  • Billing certification is preferred.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Excel and other MSFT products Database software; first- and third-party billing spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
