Responsibilities
- Understand and follow a batch ticket (recipe) with a high degree of accuracy for weights and measurements.
- Perform a wide variety of complex testing processes on production batches to measure products physical or chemical characteristics. Tests include, but are not limited to, viscosity, weight per unit of measure, flow, gloss, color characteristics (compared with standards), and various other similar tests.
- Conduct tests on materials from suppliers and batches from production.
- Perform standard testing procedures, including preparation of materials, with attention to detail and high quality.
- Follow daily work plan for Lab Work Request or project plan.
- Accurately document work in lab notebooks, either physical or electronic.
- Recognize roadblocks or anomalies and resolve them or communicate concerns with a chemist in a timely manner.
- Ensure raw materials are available and correctly labeled.
- Correctly label and mail samples.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Tint batches without assistance.
- Calculate resin composites.
- Maintain QC records using a web-based computer system.
- Prepare records for submission.
- Perform testing on lab equipment including viscosity, pH, weight per gallon, and % solids.
- Conduct draw downs and use ovens.
- Maintain and perform calibrations on machines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Must not be color blind.
- Prior quality/wet lab experience or entry-level graduate with an AS or BS in Science.
- Prior experience with color matching is a plus.
- Experience working with paint, pigments, and coatings.
- Industrial lab experience doing basic wet chemistry including viscosity, pH, and % solids.
