Job Description
Ashton North | Engineering Talent Network
Remote and On-Site Opportunities | United States
Please Note: No third party or C2C Candidates
Ashton North partners with some of the most innovative technology companies — from AI-driven startups to high-growth enterprise platforms reshaping security, healthcare, and the future of work.
We’re building our Engineering Talent Network to connect exceptional developers, architects, and technical leaders with opportunities that match their purpose, expertise, and long-term growth goals.
About the Opportunities
Our clients are scaling intelligent platforms, building distributed systems, and integrating next-generation AI capabilities into products used globally.
If you’re passionate about solving complex technical challenges, thrive in collaborative environments, and take full ownership of your work, this network was designed for you.
We represent roles in:
- Full Stack Engineering — designing end-to-end systems using TypeScript, React, Ruby, or Python.
- Backend & Distributed Systems — building reliable, high-performance services at scale.
- Applied AI / LLM Systems — bringing AI features from concept to production in healthcare, SaaS, and enterprise products.
- Engineering Leadership — shaping architecture, mentoring teams, and driving product impact.
What You’ll Do
Depending on the role and client, responsibilities may include:
- Designing and scaling distributed backend systems and APIs.
- Leading full-stack initiatives from architecture through deployment.
- Building and productionizing AI/LLM-enabled applications and pipelines.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with design, product, and research teams.
- Mentoring engineers and influencing long-term technical direction.
- Driving reliability, performance, and scalability across cloud environments.
- Championing engineering best practices in security, testing, and observability.
Ideal Profile
We’re seeking engineers who demonstrate both technical depth and leadership maturity.
Common traits among our most successful placements include:
- Experience: 5–10 years of professional software development, with several years in senior, staff, or lead-level roles. Prior Start-up work experience is preferred.
- Career Stability: Long-tenured professionals with a consistent track record — ideally no more than two employers within the past five years.
- Employment Type: Preference for candidates who have served as full-time employees rather than consultants or contractors.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from one of the top 40+ rated universities in the United States (or equivalent international institution) with strong GPAs.
- Technical Breadth: Background spanning backend, frontend, full stack, or AI/ML systems architecture.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: You’re comfortable wearing multiple hats and stepping into different technical areas when needed — the true hallmark of someone who thrives in fast-moving, startup-style environments.
- Ownership Mindset: You lead by example, make data-driven decisions, and thrive in environments that value autonomy.
- Collaborative Approach: You work seamlessly across disciplines, aligning technical decisions with business outcomes.
- Leadership Without Title: You mentor, influence, and elevate teams through your actions and technical integrity.
Preferred Technical Skills
Our clients look for engineers experienced in one or more of the following areas:
- Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript, React, Python, Go, Ruby, Kotlin, Java, C#, or Elixir.
- AI & Machine Learning: LLM integration, RAG pipelines, applied AI systems, MLOps/LLMOps.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD automation.
- Databases & Systems: PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, event-driven architecture, microservices, distributed caching.
Locations & Work Environment
Ashton North represents clients with remote-first, hybrid, and on-site engineering teams across the United States.
We currently have opportunities that include:
- 100% Remote Roles available nationwide.
- Hybrid and On-Site Roles concentrated in New York City and the San Francisco / Greater California region.
Whether you prefer full flexibility or a collaborative in-person environment, our clients offer structures designed to support both.
