Controller

+ About the job: 

The Controller oversees all financial and accounting operations for a growing construction and architecture firm, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role manages budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and strategic financial planning to support company growth.  

+ We’re looking for someone who:  

• Holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred) 

• Has 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or Controller role 

• Possesses experience in the construction, architecture, or engineering industry 

• Understands GAAP, AIA billing, job costing, and WIP reporting 

• Is proficient in accounting software and Excel (Sage 300, Deltek, or QuickBooks experience a plus) 

• Demonstrates strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills 

• Works independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 

+ What you’ll do:  

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and bank reconciliations 

• Manage job costing, WIP schedules, and ensure accurate project-level financial reporting 

• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements 

• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis 

• Ensure compliance with industry standards, including AIA billing, lien waivers, and contract terms 

• Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures 

• Collaborate with project managers and estimators for accurate job tracking 

• Coordinate audits, tax preparation, and communication with external CPAs 

• Implement and maintain accounting systems and financial tools 

• Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to leadership 

• Mentor and lead a small accounting team
