About this opportunity
As a key contributor within the sustainability and product development teams, the Manager of Sustainable Design will support the implementation and evolution of MillerKnoll's sustainable design framework. This role will help integrate sustainability principles into product development processes, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, voluntary standards, and customer expectations. The Sustainable Design Manager will bring a strong mix of technical knowledge, cross-functional collaboration, and a passion for sustainable innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the execution and refinement of MillerKnoll's sustainable design framework across product development teams, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability strategy and evolving standards and certifications.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and innovation teams to embed sustainability considerations into early-stage product development, including material selection and impact assessments.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools and processes, helping to assess and improve the environmental performance of key products.
- Partner with marketing and product teams to develop sustainability messaging and data-driven narratives for new and existing products.
- Provide sustainability insights and tools to support sales, marketing, and client engagement efforts, including RFP responses and customer presentations.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging standards and certifications, and best practices to inform internal strategies and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- BS Engineering/Science Preferred or other sustainability related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in sustainable design, product development, or corporate sustainability.
- Working knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies, materials science, and sustainability standards and certifications.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across functions and influence outcomes.
- Experience managing projects and contributing to cross-functional initiatives.
- A passion for sustainability and innovation, with a desire to drive measurable impact.
