Application Development Manager

YOUR ROLE

In your role as an Application Development Manager you will support Genworths top strategic priorities. The person selected will work with product/Accelerator, a calculation engine. The focus of the role will be to function as the p/A representative on an Agile SCRUM teams supporting Long Term Care rate actions. You will work closely with these teams to define and deliver enhancements needed for rate actions and premium mitigation strategies.. You will become familiar with Long Term Care products, business principles and implementation details.

P/A is a rules/calculation engine that we use to provide premium and other such calculations to our LTC admin system. It uses a language called VP/MS to code the calculations. VP/MS is a functional language that relies heavily upon recursion. We also call p/A via API on the server to provide calculation to other services. We are willing to teach these skills to the right candidate.

What you will be doing

  • Act as the p/A representative to an Agile SCRUM teams dedicated to supporting LTC rate actions.

  • Analyze changes needed by p/A to provide the business solutions needed by the SCRUM teams.

  • Design, Code, Document and Test the solution ensuring that it meets acceptance criteria, does not cause unintended impact and fits within the overall technical architecture. Support your changes through the testing process, assist with test planning, defect resolution and technical system activities. Implement the solution following the established change control process

  • Perform administrative duties in conjunction with the departmental requirements (participate in meetings, agile ceremonies (SCRUM Stand Ups, Sprint Reviews etc.), respond to correspondence in a timely manner, provide status updates, review/update/submit tickets, participate in change management activities).

What you bring

  • 4-year college degree and relevant equivalent experience with strong programming skills and experience, preferably in insurance/finance domain.
  • 6+ years professional experience in technology or insurance
  • Excellent analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset, with ability to understand complex business logic, analyze the system and data, to identify changes needed, and understand impact of changes on the various products and system functionalities.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment on a complex mainframe system and having good problem-solving skills and a results-oriented outlook.
  • Good communication skills ability to work with various stakeholders, managing concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to adapt to new technologies and ways of working
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills, this is directly applicable to picking up the functional language VP/MS

Nice to have

  • p/A and/or VP/MS knowledge a plus but not a requirement
  • Calculation Engine experience a plus
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum or Kanban)
