Position Summary:

Ophthalmic Associates is seeking a skilled and compassionate Optometrist to join our medical team in a full-time capacity. This role is focused exclusively on medical clinical eye care. The Optometrist will provide comprehensive eye exams, diagnose and manage ocular diseases, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed eye examinations to assess visual function and ocular health.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of eye conditions including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and more.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing ocular procedures.
  • See same-day patients and those seen by the providers in the practice who attend to city call. This is done in collaboration with the ophthalmologists, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
  • Work closely with ophthalmologists and other clinical staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Educate patients on eye health, treatment options, and preventive care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives, research, or community outreach as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice optometry in Alaska (preferrable).
  • Clinical experience in a medical or hospital setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools such as OCT, fundus cameras, and visual field analyzers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a great teamwork mindset.
  • Commitment to ethical, patient-centered care.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing complex ocular diseases.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Work Environment:

  • Clinical setting within a medical facility.
  • No retail or sales responsibilities.
  • Full-time schedule; may include occasional evening or weekend shifts based on patient needs.
