Position Summary:

Ophthalmic Associates is seeking a skilled and compassionate Optometrist to join our medical team in a full-time capacity. This role is focused exclusively on medical clinical eye care with a special interest in Glaucoma. The Optometrist will provide comprehensive eye exams, diagnose and manage ocular diseases, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed eye examinations to assess visual function and ocular health.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of eye conditions including stable glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and more.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing ocular procedures.
  • See same-day patients and those seen by the providers in the practice who attend to city call. This is done in collaboration with the ophthalmologists, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
  • Work closely with ophthalmologists and other clinical staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Educate patients on eye health, treatment options, and preventive care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives, research, or community outreach as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice optometry in Alaska (preferrable).
  • Clinical experience in a medical or hospital setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools such as OCT, fundus cameras, and visual field analyzers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a great teamwork mindset.
  • Commitment to ethical, patient-centered care.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience managing complex ocular diseases.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Work Environment:

  • Clinical setting within a medical facility.
  • No retail or sales responsibilities.
  • Full-time schedule; may include occasional evening or weekend shifts based on patient needs.
