Estimator I
The Estimator I is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for student housing projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, a good understanding of construction processes, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Reports to : Vice President - Preconstruction
Duties and Responsibilities : The following duties and responsibility are an outline and should not be considered an all-inclusive list. As the needs of the department change, your duties may be modified as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for student housing projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
- Perform quantity take-offs from architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) drawings.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of cost databases.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate cost estimation.
- Participate in bid proposal preparations and submissions.
- Analyze and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain and update project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Support the preconstruction team in identifying value engineering options and cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation of preliminary construction schedules.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to understand project scope and requirements.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, construction methods, and market conditions.
- Maintain a "lessons learned" list for continuous improvement of the estimating process.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-2 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field. Superior communication skills
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying and addressing project needs.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software.
- Experience with student housing projects.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
