Job Title: Chef Department: Student Life | Dining Services

Oversees food quality, preparation and execution for dining site; coordinates and participates in activities of cooks and other kitchen personnel engaged in preparation and cooking of food in dining unit; responsible for food production; trains food service staff in production, preparation and garnishing techniques and enforces quality standards; supervises and participates in production team for dining unit; assumes responsibility for sanitation plan and procedures in accordance with HACCP and all applicable food codes and practices; assists Executive Chef with menu forecasting and purchasing; performs at special functions and events outside of dining unit.

The Utility Worker maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in a food service operation serving students, staff, and guests of the university; operates and sets up dishwashing equipment; cleans dish return systems and area; disposes of all trash and food waste; stocks and/or supplies dispenser equipment and food items; cleans and sets up beverage, soft serve and other service equipment; cleans kitchen equipment; ensures the refrigerators are clean and in accordance with prescribed standards; cleans and maintains kitchen and serving equipment; washes windows and light fixtures; maintains floor cleanliness by sweeping and mopping.

Minimum Education Required

8th grade education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

Required: 8th grade education; ability to count and read warning signs/labels and communicate effectively; ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; upon completion of the probationary period, must successfully pass specialized, title specific training administered by department; successful completion of a background check.

Desired: High school diploma; previous kitchen custodial work experience; Serve-Safe or equivalent sanitation training /certification.

The Ohio State Universitys Student Life Dining Services is a premier campus dining department dedicated to serving students, staff, faculty and guests. Critical to the Residential Experience, Dining Services administers the student meal plan to approximately 15,000 residential students on the Columbus, Manseld, Marion, Newark and Wooster campuses.

The hiring range for this position is $44,400 - $58,000.
