Arrowhead Programs is seeking a Lead Underwriter for our Senior Living Program to join our growing team!

The Lead Underwriter operates at an elevated level of underwriting skill, contributing to profitable growth within the Senior Living program. The Lead Underwriter will work independently with moderate direction from the Chief Underwriting Officer. The position will be responsible for leading the underwriting of casualty insurance products within its assigned level of Underwriting Authority. The Lead Underwriter will qualify, evaluate, and quote new and renewal business. The position will utilize individual insurance applications, risk exposure evaluation techniques and pricing benchmark tools to determine the acceptability of risk, policy coverage terms and premium, on behalf of the carrier. The position will utilize a strong mix of communication, desk management, team building and critical analysis skills to develop positive results and will operate with a high level of accuracy within their work product.

How You Will Contribute:

  • Underwrites new business, renewals, and mid-term endorsements in accordance with applicable guidelines and procedures.

  • Operates with a high-level of underwriting authority granted by carrier partners.

  • Acts as a primary contact to carrier partners on the program

  • Leads the development of the underwriting strategy for the senior living program, ensuring alignment with business objectives and risk appetite.

  • Proactively advises appetite, form and rating change needed to address emerging risks to portfolio.

  • Contributes toward the achievement of American Specialty's premium and profitability objectives.

  • Customizes pricing, coverage, and policy terms in recognition of individual risk assessment.

  • Prepares and manages referral to others for unique, complex, or reinsured risks.

  • Ensures contingencies and recommendations are implemented to address risk improvement.

  • Examines and analyze applications, inspection reports, financial reports, loss information, and websites to develop an underwriting approach and market selection.

  • Develops and communicates informed, sound underwriting decisions.

  • Monitors book results to identify trends.

  • Coordinate and actively teams with our Operations support team, Client Services, Risk Services and Claims Services, to manage quote pipeline and achieve shared objectives.

  • Contributes to technical underwriting guide development, as needed.

Skills and Experience to be Successful:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Possess 7+ years of on-the-job commercial underwriting experience.

  • Specific experience in the underwriting of Senior Living Facilities

  • Keen problem-solving skills to adapt strategic underwriting direction to specific underwriting issues and business opportunities decisively.

  • Strong understanding of risk analysis, pricing, and underwriting standards for complex risks

  • Adapt to changing legal, legislative, economic and social environments.

  • A positive curiosity that leads self and others to explore new approaches.

  • Good analytical, interpretive and evaluative thinking skills.

  • Focus and agility to get the work done while balancing underwriting quality and business objectives.

  • Technology Skills: Adept at Microsoft Product Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel). An ability to learn new and proprietary software programs.

  • Underwriting designations or active Agency License. (Preferred)
