Job Title: Applications Developer 2 Department: FAES | Marketing and Communications

Position Summary

The Temporary Application Developer is responsible for developing, testing, and implementing server-based and client-facing applications to support a growing online platform. This role will ensure compliance with university branding standards, ADA accessibility guidelines, and information security policies. The developer will contribute to the creation of visually engaging and interactive online experiences, leveraging data-driven animations and responsive design for optimal user engagement. Additionally, this role includes transferring knowledge to current employees and maintaining application currency by updating legacy systems and data.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development & Maintenance (45%)

  • Design, code, test, and deploy new web and mobile applications.
  • Maintain and optimize existing applications to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Update older applications with current data to keep systems relevant and accurate.

Knowledge Transfer & Collaboration (25%)

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and training sessions with current employees to ensure smooth transition and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define application requirements and testing criteria.

Compliance, Standards & Security (15%)

  • Ensure all applications meet ADA accessibility standards and university branding guidelines.
  • Apply best practices for data security and information systems protection.

System Updates & Enhancements (15%)

  • Keep applications and supporting systems updated with the latest software versions and patches.
  • Identify and implement improvements for outdated systems and technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with web development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).
  • Proficiency in server-side technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, PHP, or .NET).
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Understanding of accessibility, branding, and security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mobile application development.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and animation libraries.
  • Previous work in higher education or public-sector projects.
