The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) is a national, nonprofit public charity dedicated to finding permanent homes for the more than 140,000 children waiting in North Americas foster care systems. Created by Wendys founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grantmaking. The Foundation has an opening for a full-time digital communications associate.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
With support from the digital communications manager, the digital communications associate will collaborate with internal teams and external audiences to increase awareness of and engagement with the Foundations mission. The digital communications associate will draft and edit copy for social posts, emails and blogs that engage different audiences, promoted through the Foundations social media channels. The role requires a strong writer who brings a collaborative mindset and awareness of current digital communication trends to strengthen the Foundations digital visibility and engagement.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support implementation of the Foundations strategy to grow and engage our community through social media (e.g., Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads), consistently conveying the organizations key messages and brand voice
- Collaborate with the digital communications manager and across teams to plan and develop social post copy and visuals across platforms and audiences that raise brand and cause awareness, support fundraising and promote event participation
- Nurture the Foundations community of supporters and influencers across social media channels and identify opportunities to expand reach and engagement
- Monitor social media engagement, track key metrics and recommend strategies to improve reach and impact; leveraging Sprout Social, Google Analytics, HubSpot etc., support the identification of successful content and emerging trends and share progress updates in Asana with internal teams and agency partners
2. Manage the Foundations YouTube channel, including uploading videos and writing video descriptions that follow best SEO and GEO practices
3. Write, edit and proofread digital content, including blogs, website text and emails, in alignment with the Foundations brand standards and AP style and following best practices in SEO and GEO
4. Efficiently utilize content management and creative tools (e.g., Sprout Social, WordPress, Canva, Adobe, HubSpot, etc.) and submit requests to schedule emails through HubSpot
5. Support management of the Foundations info email address by monitoring messages, responding to public inquiries and forwarding requests to the appropriate departments within established guideline
6. Support other marketing and digital communications efforts, as assigned
RequirementsKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

- Applies creativity to develop compelling digital content that advance the organizations mission and goals; experience utilizing best practices in digital communications and email marketing; experience with search engine optimization and influencer marketing strategies a plus
- Experience managing social media communities and/or contributing content frequently, utilizing various channels and management tools; ability to identify trends and translate analytics into action-oriented insights
- Familiarity with tools such as WordPress, HubSpot, Sprout Social, Canva and project management systems (e.g., Asana); experience using Adobe Premiere Pro or iMovie to create visuals, a plus; willingness and ability to learn new platforms quickly
- Superior oral and written communication and editing skills with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels; knowledge and use of AP style with a strong attention to detail
- Proactive, adaptable and able to excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; ability to manage multiple projects, apply judgement and leverages resources to navigate ambiguity while partnering with multidisciplinary teams to achieve results
- Values diversity and supports an inclusive culture; ability to successfully communicate with and influence a diverse group of audiences
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field
- 24 years of experience in digital communications or social media management required
- Experience in a consulting agency and/or a national nonprofit organization is a plus
