Administrator Director of Safety, Security and Preparedness- Olentangy Schools

Olentangy Local School District is seeking qualified candidates for a Director of Safety, Security and Preparedness position(s) available within Olentangy Schools for the 2025-26 school year. This position will assist the Superintendent in the planning, implementing and coordinating of security activities, district-wide emergency preparedness and safety training programs. To provide leadership, collaboration, and coordination in the areas of Safety and Security to accomplish the mission of the district. Qualified candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or Master's degree or higher; have a minimum of five (5) years in safety, security and preparedness or law enforcement; demonstrated skill in oral and written communication; and the ability to assist in the development and implementation of programs. Alternative to the above qualifications as the superintendent or board of education may find appropriate.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position include: strong knowledge of school security and preparedness; knowledge of state requirements outlined in ORC 3737.73; ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; effective, active listening skills; strong organizational, written communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively with others; knowledge of personal computers, spreadsheet applications and databases; ability to research issues/problems and identify practical, everyday solutions; ability to prepare detailed reports and documents; ability to plan, schedule, organize, and prioritize activities and assignments; ability to maintain complex clerical records; ability to maintain confidentiality in the processing of personnel data and the keeping of personnel records; ability to understand and interpret basic policies and procedures; ability to establish effective working relationships with district employees and administrators; and understanding and patient with staff, parents, and students

Essential functions for the position include: respond appropriately to crisis situations (i.e. emergencies, employee/parent concerns); ensure safety of students, staff and visitors; assists in ensuring the district abides by all state and federal laws applicable to the scheduling, planning and execution of safety drills and other requirements; recommends and drafts security policies and procedures; provides technical assistance in the day-to-day operation of the district safety team; provides staff development for all personnel related to safety, security and preparedness; assists building principals and other administrative staff with matters related to the security of the district; completes district, state, or federal reports as requested; develops worker and staff safety orientation and programs; assists with in-service programs and training programs for all staff; makes recommendations to the Superintendent on the development and revision of policies and procedures related to safety and security; attend meetings and in-services as required; responsible for the district-wide safety and emergency planning program; publishes periodic reports regarding the effectiveness of the Safety, Security and Preparedness Program; completes district, state or federal reports as requested/required; conduct recurring security audits of district facilities; oversee the district’s visitor control systems and procedures; assist in or conduct security investigations as deemed necessary by the superintendent; manage substitute staff training program to ensure awareness and compliance with the district’s emergency response protocols; oversee the district’s school resource officer program; work cooperatively with federal, state and local agencies to insure district compliance with current laws, regulation or investigations; protect confidentiality of records and information about students or staff, and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines; assist administration in establishing proper safety protocols in school buildings; outstanding attendance and punctuality; display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the district; promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation; and performs other safety/security-related duties as assigned by the superintendent.

Other duties and responsibilities for the position include: serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings; instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner; perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent and/or Chief Operations Officer; and the Board of Education may authorize security personnel or designated employees to carry a weapon on district property pursuant to R.C. Sections 2923.122(D)(1) and 3313.536.
