Electric Lineman 3rd Class

Successful candidates must have a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or be willing to obtain one within six months of employment. The positions are in the municipal maintenance department and successful applicants will be required to assist with all aspects of municipal operations. Compensation to be determined by qualifications and experience.

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform all assigned work on the Borough electric system including all traffic signals, street lights and other related components and all electric utility service to properties where voltages do not exceed 600 volts A.C. as directed by the Electric Foreman, assigned Supervisor, or the First or Second Class Lineman. Assist in all other electric system work as required.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform all construction, scheduled and emergency maintenance, and repair on secondary electric distribution lines, street lights, traffic signals, electric meters, and electric utility wiring from the main electrical service to the load side of transformation components under supervision of a Second or First Class Lineman or the Electric Foreman, Public Works Supervisor or assigned Supervisor.
2. Perform all work within established safety procedures.
3. Gather, document, and submit all forms and reports as required including but not limited to routine meter readings, equipment maintenance reports, oil tests, etc. as required by Electric Foreman or assigned Supervisor.
4. Safely operate and account for all assigned materials, tools, equipment and vehicles.
5. Respond to emergency call outs after regular working hours when requested under the established guidelines of supervision, and perform other work activities related to specific job responsibilities listed above including other duties as assigned.
6. Ability to operate department equipment such as, but not limited to, the bucket truck and digger derrick.

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS
1. Proven skills in secondary electric distribution work at a level described herein or equivalent proven job classification through an approved apprentice program.
2. Ability to work competently as an electric grounds person with a full understanding of required tools, use, and location of same, safety protocol, and ability to identify and understand the purpose and use of electric system components.
3. Hold valid PA Class B CDL Driver’s License.
4. Minimum one (1) year experience in electrical distribution system work as described herein within the Borough’s electric system.
5. Earned high school diploma or GED.
6. Lineman Training as required by Borough Management.
7. Equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CAPABILITIES
1. Ability to perform hard manual labor.
2. Ability to lift 100 lbs.
3. Full use of all extremities. 4. Ability to read, write, and understand the English language. 5. Ability to work at heights up to 60 ft. 6. Ability to work in confined spaces. 7. Ability to accurately distinguish between colors. 8. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, and kneel for long periods of time. 9. Ability to work in cold, heat, and wet conditions for prolonged periods. 10. Ability to view operations and maintenance reports and documents. 11. Must work well with others. 12. Ability to work overtime hours as assigned by management. 13. Employee must be able to work in a bucket truck whose maximum weight limit is 350 pounds which includes employee’s body weight as well as the 55 pound weight of the tools employee is required to use while working in the bucket truck.
