As a technician, you can expect to perform a wide range of duties including placing catheters, conducting blood draws, administering treatments, assisting in surgeries, utilizing veterinary terminology, taking x-rays, monitoring anesthesia and recovery, performing drug calculations, and engaging in continuous learning and professional development.

This role will require you to be physically active, with approximately 90-100% of your time spent on your feet. You will be responsible for lifting patients weighing between 5-35 pounds on a daily basis, 35-70 pounds frequently, 70-100 pounds with assistance, and occasionally more than 100 pounds with the help of others.

Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Complete Treatments/Medications for Hospitalized Patients
  • Administer Medications to Boarding Pets
  • Calculate and Prepare Anesthetics
  • Draw Blood
  • Place IV-Catheters
  • Prep Patients for Surgery
  • Intubations
  • Perform Dentals
  • Dental Extractions as needed (complicated extractions – refer to Doctors)
  • Monitor & Recover Anesthesia Patients

 

  • Write up Treatments in Charts
  • Enter Charges using Cornerstone
  • Lab Requisition Forms

 

  • Perform and Process X-Rays
  • Collect Urine by Cystocentesis
  • Obtain Fecal Samples with Fecal Loops
  • Set Up Fecal Float Exams
  • Read Fecal Results
  • Express Anal Glands – Internally
  • Clean Ears
  • Flush Ears
  • Clip and Scrub Wounds/Infections
  • Nail Trims
  • Restrain Pets for Co-Workers and Doctors
  • Assist with Doctor Exams
  • Perform/Delegate Treatments
  • Tech Exam Rooms (weight, temp, sample collection)

 

  • Clean Surgical Instruments
  • Run Autoclave
  • Fold Surgery Laundry
  • Prepare Surgical Packs
  • Restock Work Supplies Daily
  • Daily Inventory – Pull Cards as Needed

 

  • Call Owners after Surgery
  • Pick-Up Calls as Needed
  • Give After-Care Instructions to Owners at Pick-Up
