The Endpoint Senior Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the mission of advancing cancer research and patient care through robust, high-availability IT infrastructure. This role provides advanced, on-site and remote support for a wide range of technologies across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, data integrity, and institutional IT policies across research labs, clinical environments, and data-intensive computing areas. The engineer will be deeply involved in deploying, maintaining, and securing computing environments used in high-throughput biological research, genomics, imaging, and patient data analytics. Operating within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary cancer research ecosystem, this position ensures end-to-end support for essential systems that power discovery, collaboration, and clinical translation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level support for workstations running Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems across laboratories, shared research facilities, administration areas, and specialized cancer research units.
  • Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, administrators and IT colleagues to ensure infrastructure aligns with evolving cancer research requirements including large data set analysis, high-performance computing, imaging, and genomics.
  • Serve as a liaison between central IT and laboratory end users, working on complex technical issues, recommending sustainable solutions, and documenting troubleshooting procedures.
  • Support network connectivity for high-throughput instruments, lab automation systems, and clinical research applications; coordinate with network engineering to resolve bandwidth or access issues.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of IT infrastructure projects supporting lab expansion, relocations, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with institutional security policies and external standards (HIPAA, NIST 800-171, ISO 27001), especially for environments processing PHI or research subject data.
  • Maintain strong awareness of compliance requirements including HIPAA, data retention policies, and cybersecurity best practices in research environments.
  • Mentor junior staff and students and support the development of standard operating procedures and knowledge-sharing practices within the field services team.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for field-deployed systems, including:
    • Domain integration
    • Certificate and keychain issues
    • Driver and hardware failures
    • OS patching and imaging
  • Configure and manage MDM platforms (e.g., SCCM, JAMF) and remote support tools (e.g., TeamViewer).
  • Work closely with researchers and IT architects to support secure deployments of high-performance computing (HPC), microscopy, sequencing, or AI-driven diagnostic tools.
  • Lead or assist in secure device deployments, migrations, decommissions, and lab buildouts or renovations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline-or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in IT field support.
    • Preferred: 6-12 years, including experience supporting diverse computing environments in academic, healthcare, or biomedical research settings.
  • Technical Proficiency
    • Advanced expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining Windows 10/11, macOS, and various Linux distributions.
    • Experience with lab-specific hardware and software (e.g., Zeiss, Nikon, Vectra, EVOS, Leica, and Olympus microscopes and cameras; Thermo Fisher: Genexus, iBright, TAC; TapeStations, 2100 Expert, Nano Drop; Licor equipment and Image Studio software; Azure Sapphire, Cielo qPCR Machines, Kaluza, FlowJo, Setarious Incucyte equipment and software etc. ) and support of networked scientific equipment.
    • Proficiency with data analysis tools and languages such as Python and R for troubleshooting, reporting, and optimizing endpoint performance.
    • Expert Knowledge of Active Directory, group policy, secure shell (SSH), endpoint encryption, and remote support tools.
    • Familiarity with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow), inventory and asset management using Workday, and patch/update practices across OS platforms.
    • Security: Hands-on experience with EDR tools (e.g., CrowdStrike, Defender DLP), vulnerability scanning, patch compliance, disk encryption, MFA, and group policy management.
    • Proficient in SCCM, JAMF, Active Directory, Group Policy, SSH, Bash/PowerShell scripting, and RDP/ARD.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in cancer research or healthcare IT environment.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, and NIH/NCI compliance expectations.
  • Familiarity with support for virtualization technologies, container environments, or HPC clusters is a plus.
