The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative Maintenance/Construction Technician III, to be a part of the Coastal Region Maintenance Team. This position reports to the Coastal Region Maintenance Yard in Greenville, NC and will be tasked with completing general preventative maintenance and like-in-kind Force Account system replacements.
A successful candidate for this position, shall have journeyman level experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of general, plumbing, HVAC, AND/OR electrical systems, equipment, and machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties.
This position requires the daily commute to Coastal Region Maintenance Yard in Greenville, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Management Preferences:
- Demonstrated experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of general, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, AND/OR electrical systems, including but not limited to general carpentry, concrete, masonry, water and wastewater piping, chillers, air handlers, pumps, ventilators, fans, piping, mini splits, lighting, building conduit and wire, kitchen equipment, etc.
- Experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the general, plumbing, HVAC, AND/OR electrical construction trades relating to the maintenance of buildings.
- Experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
