Job Description
We are currently seeking a FT Assistant Store Manager/Human Resources Admin for our East Meadow Store (we are opening Levittown on Long Island so flexibility with location would be necessary). Assistant Store Manager experience in grocery store environment is required.
Our ASM/HRAs support respective Store Managers with the implementation of initiatives and achievements of goals and objectives, with a focus on business operations and merchandising. This position will be responsible for day to day in store operations in addition to daily Human Resources functions within the store. This will include working collaboratively with the Store Manager, VP of Human Resources and all other managers, assistant managers and personnel, providing store and employee support, recruiting, employee relations and all other functions as it pertains to HR within a store environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage store operations, grocery and gourmet food production, inventory, store staff, schedules, merchandising, customer complaints and all other store operations, working in direct collaboration with the Store Manager
- Work with all store departments regarding questions or assistance they need to perform their job better
- Perform store walks to ensure that the store shelves are full and inventory is correctly placed out for customer purchase. Ensure that each department has all displayed dishes filled and all hot items are displayed and clean
- Work closely with each Department Manager, ensuring that their departments are clean, stocked and staffed
- Assign duties to staff based on their areas of expertise, to ensure that they make use of their knowledge to render best services in the store
- Handle customer complaints and returns in a cordial manner, creating mutual benefits to both the store and customers
- Prepare workers performance report at the end of every month to evaluate their performances, identifying areas with low performances to work on
- Maintain good store cleanliness by ensuring that the store is constantly cleaned and sanitized by the appropriate staff
- Create a safe atmosphere by implementing safety measures for the protection of workers and customers, and handle emergencies promptly
- Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests, providing appropriate assistance.
- Re-directing HR related calls and distribute correspondence to the appropriate person on the HR team.
- Maintaining records of personnel-related data (payroll, personal information, leaves, turnover rates etc.) in both paper and the database and ensure all employment requirements are met
- Liaise with other departments or functions (payroll, benefits etc.)
- Assisting supervisors and the management team in performance management procedures.
- Schedule meetings, interviews, HR events etc. and maintain the store teams agenda
- Other duties and functions as assigned
Skills
- Excellent communication skills: assistant store managers need to be able to communicate effectively in writing and in speech to staff and management
- Good human relations skills: The assistant store manager relates frequently with people of different background who visit the store for their groceries, and so needs to have a great deal of skills in human relationship to be able to deal with them satisfactorily
- Ability to resolve conflict: The assistant store manager should expect to have situations arise in the store which will require an immediate response. Individual should be a quick thinker with the ability to address each issue.
- Multitasking skills: The Assistant Store Managers job description is multi-faceted and so should be able to work on and complete several tasks at the same time so as to be efficient on the job
- Managerial skills: The Assistant Store Managers position needs someone who can manage both people and materials resource for the efficient operation of the store
- Organizational skills: Must be able to create effective organization in the store that will enable the staff to carry out their duties efficiently
Requirements
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in human resources and/or relevant human resources/administrative position support role a plus
- Must be computer literate with high proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Must have experience working within databases
- Ability to learn ATS software
- 5+ years of experience working in a busy grocery store, with at least 3 of those years working as an Assistant Store Manager
- In depth knowledge of all grocery store department operations including inventory, product rotation, staffing, scheduling and product knowledge
- Must be able to speak, read and communicate in the English language
- Strong understanding of safety hazards and prevention with the ability to follow our store standards for preventable hazards, trips and falls
