The Physician Assistant will provide medical care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting, including conducting assessments, diagnosing conditions, developing treatment plans, and prescribing medications. This role will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and high-quality patient care. The Physician Assistant will also maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.

  • Provide High-Quality, Evidence-Based Medical Care: Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based medical care to inmates, adhering to established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines. This includes assessing, diagnosing, and treating medical conditions, with a focus on providing effective and efficient care in a correctional setting.

  • Conduct Assessments and Diagnose: Perform thorough medical assessments, diagnose a wide range of conditions, and develop treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians. Prescribe medications, manage chronic conditions, and order appropriate tests as part of the patient care process.

  • Promote Positive Health Outcomes: Demonstrate leadership in ensuring excellent patient care through the timely and accurate delivery of medical services, promoting positive health outcomes, and improving patient satisfaction.

  • Maintain Patient Confidentiality and Ethical Standards: Safeguard patient medical information and history by upholding HIPAA regulations and medical ethics in all patient interactions and documentation.

  • Develop and Implement Treatment Plans: Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to develop individualized treatment plans, ensuring they are followed appropriately and adjusted as necessary based on patient progress.

  • On-Call and After-Hours Care: Provide on-call medical services as needed, including after-hours care, in accordance with facility or company requirements, ensuring continuous care availability.

  • Leadership and Team Collaboration: Lead by example, providing direction and support to nursing and healthcare staff to ensure cohesive teamwork and collaboration between medical and correctional teams. Foster a positive work environment where team members feel supported in providing quality care.

  • Staff Development and Education: Support the development of clinical staff by providing guidance, mentorship, and ongoing education. Ensure staff members stay updated on the latest medical practices, procedures, and correctional healthcare protocols.

  • Promote Effective Interdisciplinary Relationships: Cultivate good working relationships within the medical team and with other departments to ensure that patient care is coordinated and operational efficiency is optimized.

  • Embrace Change and Foster Improvement: Demonstrate flexibility and a positive approach to changes in medical procedures and treatment protocols. Motivate the team to embrace improvements, encourage feedback, and adjust workflows to enhance patient care.

  • Adhere to Quality Assurance Standards: Consistently perform clinical tasks with accuracy and attention to detail, adhering to facility quality assurance standards and ensuring the highest level of care for patients.

  • Engage in Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional activities, including training and development initiatives, to enhance medical skills and contribute to continuous improvement in patient care.

  • Uphold Professional Standards: Maintain accountability for professional conduct, appearance, and performance. Ensure adherence to ethical, legal, and professional standards in all aspects of patient care and facility operations.

  • Ensure Facility Policy Compliance: Respect and adhere to the facility's safety, infection control, and operational policies, contributing to a safe and effective healthcare environment for both patients and staff.

  • Flexibility and Additional Duties: Demonstrate flexibility by accepting additional staffing assignments and performing other duties as required in a dynamic healthcare environment.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with medical and correctional staff to resolve issues, optimize care delivery, and ensure smooth daily operations. Advocate for patient care while navigating the challenges of a correctional healthcare setting.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What we Ask of YOU:

  • A current, valid, and unrestricted state license, certification, and/or credential authorizing practice in the applicable clinical role (e.g., MD, DO, DDS, DMD, NP, PA, RN, LPN, LMHP, etc.) is required.A High School diploma or GED is required.

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare, or a related field is preferred for applicable roles.

  • For advanced clinical roles, completion of an accredited graduate or professional program (e.g., medical school, dental school, nurse practitioner program, etc.) is required.

  • A current, valid DEA registration, if applicable.

  • Board certification in a relevant specialty is preferred, if applicable.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice, with at least 1-2 years in a correctional healthcare or underserved population setting preferred.

  • Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in a managed care or correctional facility setting is highly preferred.

  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
