The Medical Scribe is an integral part of the patient care team; works to facilitate patient flow and to ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient.

Required Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED
Successful completion of one of the following: 1) Completion of Medical Assistant Training Program (with attainment of MA certification within 8 months of hire) OR three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant (with attainment of MA certification with 8 months of hire), 2) EMT basic or Intermediate (with current license)
Customer Service Representative in Specialty/Procedural clinic setting, with at least three 3 years of experience
Medical Terminology
Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications
Organizational skills and focus; on tracking patient care and improving patient flow
BLS Certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in related clinical setting
Excellent typing skills (over 200 characters per minute)
Superior organizational skills
Professional demeanor
Duties and Responsibilities:
Establishes strong working relationship with provider; while facilitating excellent patient care and improved workflow
Accompany physician into patient exam room; in order to transcribe a history, physical exam, and document accurately (the physician encounter with the patient and others present). This documentation supports both medical necessity (of the level of service billed) and key components (CMS E/M guidelines).
Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times
Consistently exceeds customer service expectations and communicates effectively
Limits interaction in exam room to: introduction, asking, and recording of information
Strong data entry and accuracy in recording; the physician encounter
Builds productive interpersonal relationships; in every encounter and demonstrates teamwork
Actively participates in the department
Completes physician encounter documentation; by the end of each business day (for physician review and signature)

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

Must be able to see (with corrective eyewea

M ust be able to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist (routinely)
Constant use of the computer and keyboard
Must be able to lift greater than 50 pounds and push 0-300 pounds (frequently)
Special Demands:
Sets limits when dealing with angry hostile or sometimes verbally or physically abusive patients and families; in an attempt to ensure a safe and respectful environment that will support the delivery of care
Effectively copes and strives for balance; when caring for acutely ill patients and families
