Summary of Job Responsibilities:

Assist in the care needs of residential individuals and provide health related training to agency employees. This will include monitoring medication, coordinating medical services, maintaining health records, working as essential member of an interdisciplinary team, and maintaining relationships with supported individuals, families, and medical professionals. This position does have an on call factor. 

Essential Functions and Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extend these rights and dignities to family members or guardians.

Upholds and complies with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, supported individuals, family members and visitors.

Commits to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs that will assure quality improvements and team processes, including regular attendance at staff meetings.

Enhance the lives of those we serve through positive approaches, remembering that each person has individual needs and learning styles. Follow all approved and trained plans.

Assist in the training of agency employees, including, not limited to the following areas: medication administration, First Aid and medical procedures. 

Coordinate and provide medical care for ill or injured people we support.

Maintain medical records in accordance with State and the Department of Developmental Disabilities regulations.

Monitor and dispense individual's medication in accordance with State regulations and Center policy.

Maintain interdepartmental/family communication regarding a change in the supported individual's health status or medical needs.

Follow all agency guidelines and department specific policies, i.e., sick time or vacation time usage and call-in policies, dress codes, etc. as specified in personnel manual and residential specific procedures

Perform any and all duties related to the Center’s mission, goals and operation and as directed by the Director of Clinical Services.

Internal/External Relationships:

Internal: Frequently- all residential staff and interdepartmental personnel; individuals serviced and supported.

External: Frequently- families, physicians, representatives of Rhode Island State offices, physicians/staff, and pharmacists/staff.

Working Conditions:

Basic medical clinic conditions within various residential sites and J. Arthur Trudeau medical offices, as directed and as needed. General medical office conditions working with computer, telephone/fax machines, and photocopying equipment.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to deal with wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Must be able to assist with client transfers. Travel to and from residential sites and within the J. Arthur Trudeau facility using own vehicle. Ability to successfully perform the essential function of this job with reasonable accommodations considered when needed to assist individuals with disabilities perform essential life functions. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
