Chewys Inventory Technology group builds the platforms that make real-time inventory visibility, placement, and movement possible across our entire supplychain network. As an Engineer III youll design and operate high-scale, eventdriven services that keep millions of items in the right place at the right time. You will pair deep technical ownership with leadership in Chewys Operating Principles Debate Openly & Commit Fully, Operate at Depth, and Accelerate Time while mentoring engineers and shaping our engineering culture.
What Youll Do
- Build and develop distributed systems using Java 8+, Spring Boot, and AWS components like Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, S3, and API Gateway.
- Own features endtoend: from RFC and architecture review through coding, deployment, and postlaunch measurement.
- Lead oncall rotations; drive rootcause analysis, observability improvements, and operational excellence.
- Coach and improve engineers through design sessions, code reviews, and learning opportunities.
- Influence product direction by translating ambiguous business problems into resilient, scalable solutions.
- Advocate for standard methodologies in testing, secure coding, CI/CD, infrastructureascode (Terraform/CloudFormation), and performance tuning.
- Collaborate multi-functionally with product, data science, fulfillment ops, and partner engineering teams to align roadmaps with business outcomes.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of professional softwareengineering experience (or 5+ with a track record of technical leadership on production scale systems).
- Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices running in AWS.
- Strong grasp of distributedsystem patterns (asynchronous messaging, event sourcing, eventual consistency).
- Proven ability to deliver from ideation through production support with minimal mentorship.
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent communication skills and comfort navigating ambiguity while balancing near-term execution with long-term strategy.
- Experience in high-volume e-commerce, logistics, or supplychain domains.
- Exposure to data-intensive architectures and observability stacks (Grafana, Datadog, Splunk).
- Working knowledge of modern front-end frameworks (React or Vue).
