The Registered Medication Aide (RMA) will provide direct patient care in a correctional setting by administering prescribed medications, monitoring patient responses, and documenting care in compliance with Virginia state regulations. This role will collaborate with nurses and healthcare staff to ensure safe and effective medication management while adhering to facility policies and infection control standards. The Registered Medication Aide (RMA) will also assist with patient education and contribute to a secure and well-organized healthcare environment.

How YOU can Make an Impact:

  • Dispense medications (oral, inhalation, and topical) to patients according to physician orders and in compliance with facility protocols and state regulations.

  • Stock and organize medication carts to ensure all medications are properly stored and easily accessible for administration.

  • Record and document medications and dosages administered, ensuring accurate and timely entries in the electronic medical record (EMR) for compliance with legal and facility requirements.

  • Monitor and maintain pharmacy inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels of medications and medical supplies; coordinate with pharmacy staff to order and restock supplies as necessary.

  • Collaborate with Security and MEDIKO Staff, responding to requests promptly and in accordance with facility guidelines, while adhering to conduct, behavior, and chain of command policies.

  • Assist in the management of medication-related concerns, including tracking adverse reactions or complications and reporting to appropriate healthcare personnel.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to medication administration and healthcare services within the correctional setting.

  • Participate in medication administration audits and compliance checks as required by facility standards and MEDIKO's policies.

  • Follow established procedures for the safe disposal of expired or unused medications, in line with state regulations and best practices for pharmaceutical waste.

  • Assist in patient education, providing information to inmates on proper medication use, potential side effects, and overall health management as applicable.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in medication administration and correctional healthcare.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What we Ask of YOU:

  • A current, valid state(s) licensure, certificate and/or credentials documenting ability to practice in applicable role (i.e. CMA, LPN, RN, LMHP, etc.).

  • A High School diploma or GED is required.

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.

  • Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment.

  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
