Our client is a hospital in Grass Valley, CA, seeking an experienced Medical Director to lead their team. This full-service hospital has been serving the community since 1956 and is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care for cats and dogs. The ideal candidate will be an experienced veterinarian with strong leadership skills, ready to guide associate veterinarians, ensure medical excellence, and support the hospital's continued growth and success.
Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. This is a full-time position, with no weekend requirements.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director is responsible for providing strong leadership within the hospital, mentoring associate veterinarians, and ensuring compliance with veterinary regulations. In this role, you will oversee medical standards and quality of care, set and implement medical policies, and work collaboratively with the leadership team to enhance hospital operations. Responsibilities include seeing patients, providing preventive and routine care, managing dental and surgical cases, and ensuring exceptional communication with clients and staff. Administrative duties include handling patient care problems and client concerns, scheduling staff, conducting doctor meetings, managing controlled drugs, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, AAHA, and state veterinary regulations. The Medical Director also plays a key role in developing the practice, identifying service opportunities, supporting revenue growth, and planning for operational needs. This role requires a veterinarian with excellent communication skills, strong professional ethics, and a commitment to fostering teamwork and accountability.
Practice Details
The hospital is a full-service facility offering a broad range of services including vaccinations, preventive care, routine exams, dentistry, geriatric care, hospice and end-of-life care, and overnight cat boarding. Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical capabilities, the hospital provides advanced care with in-house testing to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses. The team takes pride in meeting the high standards of the American Animal Hospital Association, ensuring exceptional care for every patient.

The hospital is home to three DVMs supported by a skilled and compassionate team of veterinary professionals. The environment is collaborative and patient-focused, dedicated to delivering professional, compassionate care while building lifelong client relationships.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
