Description

The Claims Team Manager II will lead a team of Claims Specialists with greater than average level of combined loss, reserves and allocated expense for the line of business. This role manages a portfolio of commercial insurance claims to achieve the best possible outcomes and deliver an exceptional customer experience. The Claims Team Manager II will contribute to the organization`s success by developing talented employees, creating a positive work environment, and exploring opportunities to continuously improve and adapt to a changing environment. This role will participate in short to medium term strategic business planning and special projects, and will focused on reporting and identifying claim trends.

This position may have in-office requirement and other travel needs depending on candidate location. If you reside within 50 miles of one of the following offices, you will be required to go to the office twice a month: Boston, MA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Las Vegas, NV; Lake Oswego, OR; Chandler, AZ; Indianapolis, IN; Westborough, MA; or Weatogue, CT. Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations for the claims staff by establishing priorities, scheduling and assigning work, and coaching employees in reviewing, analyzing, investigating, negotiating and settling claims in compliance with Claims Quality Standards. Leads experienced individual contributors. Serves as a mentor/resource for new team managers, functions as an expert for jurisdictional issues and emerging trends in claims.
  • Coordinates and supports the training of new Claims Specialist within a given site.
  • Creates a high performing, results-oriented staff through candidate selection, onboarding, ongoing development, and managing individual performance with regular coaching focused on behavior and technical skill sets.
  • Prepares and distributes management reports analyzing and documenting team performance; identifies, analyzes and addresses claims processing trends and issues with a focus on continuous improvement. Participate in short to medium-term strategic business planning. Participate in special projects as directed.
  • Provides management oversight of claims files (non-litigated or litigated) within the unit, to include Manager Reviews on open inventory and reviews files to measure quality assurance. Determines individual training and development needs. Coaches to improve technical expertise within the team.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining internal and external customer relationships. Serves as a claim point of contact for agents, brokers and policyholders.
  • Monitors, evaluates and approves, within assigned authority limits, claims reserves, settlements and payments that exceed staff authority thresholds. General authority level is at a greater than average level.
  • Leads and actively contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and ensures utilization of tools and behaviors within the management system to foster critical thinking and innovation around problem solving and development of standard work.
  • Maintains awareness of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and emerging trends in claims litigation to monitor compliance with state and federal legislation.
Qualifications
  • Competencies typically acquired through a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/ training and at least 7+ years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Commercial Casualty insurance, claims investigation, loss assessment, reserving, insurance legal and regulatory environment, litigation and fraud awareness.
  • Experience with rideshare/sharing economy claims a plus!
  • Claims Team Management and/or demonstrated leadership experience required.
  • Ability to get work done through others, communicate effectively (including listening, writing clearly, giving constructive feedback, etc.), get support from above, plan/organize work, analyze/solve problems, and focus on the larger picture.
