Job Summary:

Our office in Dublin is seeking a highly experienced and self-driven Senior Civil Engineer to lead and manage complex infrastructure and land development projects from concept through construction. This role requires a self-motivated professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, can manage multiple projects independently, and excels at mentoring junior staff and interfacing with clients and regulatory agencies.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects (e.g., roads, grading, drainage, utility layout, roadway design, and stormwater management systems)
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables from concept through construction
  • Coordinate with surveyors, architects, planners, and environmental consultants
  • Communicate your design recommendations to our clients, project team, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies
  • Prepare and review construction documents, technical reports, and permit applications
  • Work alone on projects or lead a project team with other technical staff to design and detail new systems that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated and that the quality assurance measures have been followed
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and engineering standards
  • Participate in onsite observations, information gathering, and interaction with clients and contractors both during the design and construction phases of the projects to represent Salas O’Brien in the field
  • Represent the firm in meetings with clients, municipalities, and public agencies
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across project teams
  • Support business development through proposal writing and client presentations
  • Provide the technical assessment of potential project opportunities to aid in project go/no-go decisions
  • Stay abreast of new design and analysis technologies and building materials through continuing education activities.

As a Civil Engineer for projects, you will be required to demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and client focus/customer service; be resourceful and flexible, effective at handling multiple tasks; have good computer skills; have strong presentation, written, and verbal skills; and be able to effectively delegate or be delegated to while working in a collaborative format with multiple team members. Specific design-related services include:

  • Overall site planning
  • Vehicular access and parking
  • Site grading and volume calculations
  • Stormwater management design and reporting
  • Stormwater pollution control systems
  • Utility extension and relocation design
  • Develop specification documents

You will be a great fit if:

Applicants should have a minimum of a BS in Civil Engineering and 8+ years of progressive civil engineering experience with:

  • A proven ability to manage projects independently and lead teams
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, stormwater modeling, and other design software
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated success in client interface and stakeholder coordination
  • Have a working knowledge of stormwater design, modeling, and simulation software.

T he Physical and Ergonomic Requirements of this position are as follows:

  • Lifting/carrying: Carrying light loads related to field measurement equipment, and equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less.
  • Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plant and construction sites at any time of the year.
  • Walking/Climbing: Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3-dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Physical exertion: Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plants and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Breathing: Ability to work while wearing a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.
