Position Overview

The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy invites applications for a tenure track faculty position within the Division of Medicinal Chemistry & Pharmacognosy.

We are seeking basic scientists with a strong record of scholarly productivity and a commitment to drug discovery and development. The area of specialization is medicinal chemistry and/or chemical biology, with chemical synthesis as a key focus area and strength. The successful candidate will join faculty in the College of Pharmacy with broad interests in cancer biology, drug discovery and development, infectious diseases, pharmaceutics, and pharmacology and will be well positioned to collaborate with a wide array researchers across the University. Cancer-focused research is of particular interest.

Performance Objectives

  • Develop or continue an independent and focused program of research and scholarship that has national and international recognition

  • Establish or maintain a record of competitive grant and/or contract funding from federal funding sources that supports a productive research program

  • Achieve excellence in teaching and mentoring, including the training and mentoring of graduate students

  • Demonstrate service and leadership within the college and university and participate in service in professional activities

Education and Experience Requirements

Required : Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, or related field; postdoctoral training; demonstrated research productivity.

Desired : Strong track record as a mentor; experience with interdisciplinary research; evidence of independence.

Department Information

Faculty of the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy have diverse research interests in drug discovery and development. Division members pursue interdisciplinary research involving medicinal chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, natural products chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry and computer-aided molecular design.

Current research in the division includes:

  • The identification of natural products with anticancer, anti-infective, and other biological activities.

  • The discovery of synthetic anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, neuroprotective, and antiparasitic drugs.

  • The use of medicinal chemistry approaches to optimize therapeutic candidates and identify potent and efficacious lead compounds.

  • The use of chemical biology approaches to create synthetic molecular probes and identify biological targets of small molecules.

  • The identification of hit compounds against cancer and infectious diseases using rational design and screening approaches.

  • The elucidation of novel microbial biosynthetic pathways and secondary metabolites.
