Schedule: 40 hours/week Includes 2nd shift and weekend coverage
Work Locations: Field-based, supporting individuals in their homes and community settings

Summary:

The Personal Care & Support Specialist is a dual-role position that combines direct support services for individuals with developmental disabilities with dedicated time focused on promoting personal grooming, hygiene, and appearance. This position provides 24 hours per week of direct care support and 16 hours per week addressing individualized grooming routines, personal presentation, and confidence-building through hygiene and appearance-related support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Support Responsibilities (24 hours/week):

  • Provide personal care, skill-building, transportation, and community engagement support to individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Encourage independence and self-advocacy in alignment with each individuals person-centered service plan.

  • Support daily living needs including hygiene, health, safety, and social participation.

  • Document services and observations clearly and on time in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.

Grooming & Appearance Support Responsibilities (16 hours/week):

  • Assist individuals with personal grooming routines, including bathing, hair care, nail care, shaving, oral hygiene, and dressing.

  • Create individualized grooming plans that align with personal preferences, cultural values, and health considerations.

  • Schedule and accompany individuals to barbershops, salons, or clothing stores as needed to promote personal style and self-confidence.

  • Educate and coach individuals on self-care routines and appearance-related skills.
    Coordinate with families, guardians, and medical professionals to support hygiene needs and address challenges.

  • Ensure that grooming supplies and hygiene items are accessible, individualized, and regularly maintained.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to think critically and creatively

  • Ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks

  • Possess and maintain First Aid and CPR training (or willing to obtain)

  • Pass and maintain all required Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) training offerings

  • Pass a background check

  • Pass a drug test

  • Possess and maintain a driving record with less than six (6) points

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibilities

Physical Requirements:

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, equipment and/or material may be required. Other physical activities may be required.

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking within the community and other activities.

  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.

  • Must be able to assist consumers who have ph ysical difficulties.

  • Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist consumers throughout the day.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

(a) Some air-conditioned buildings. (b) Some exposure to weather extremes. (c) Ability to tolerate varying noise levels. (d) Exposure to anti-social behavior. (e) Exposure to bodily fluids (f) Ability to tolerate stressful situations.
