Job Title: Health & Safety Support Specialist
Supervisor: Director, Housing
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Schedule: 40 hours/week Includes 2nd shift and weekend coverage
Work Locations: Field-based, supporting individuals in their homes and community settings
The Health & Safety Support Specialist is a dual-role position that provides 24 hours per week of direct care support to individuals with developmental disabilities and 16 hours per week dedicated to maintaining health and safety supplies across residential sites. This role ensures homes are stocked with the necessary items to promote well-being, cleanliness, and emergency readiness for those supported.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Direct Support Responsibilities (24 hours/week):
Provide hands-on assistance with personal care, household routines, community access, and skill development.
Support individuals in alignment with their Individual Service Plans (ISPs), promoting independence, safety, and quality of life.
Assist with meal preparation, medication administration (if delegated), hygiene, and mobility as needed.
Document service delivery and relevant observations in a timely and accurate manner.
Health & Safety Supply Support Responsibilities (16 hours/week):
Monitor and restock essential health and safety supplies in assigned homes (e.g., gloves, masks, first aid kits, cleaning products, hygiene items).
Ensure compliance with agency health and safety standards and individual-specific needs.
Conduct basic home safety checks (e.g., working smoke detectors, stocked first aid kits, cleanliness standards).
Coordinate with supervisors, house managers, and nursing staff to respond to any supply gaps or urgent needs.
Track supply usage and report on inventory trends and reordering needs.
Support preparation for licensing visits and audits by maintaining organized, compliant supply areas.
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to think critically and creatively
Ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks
Possess and maintain First Aid and CPR training (or willing to obtain)
Pass and maintain all required Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) training offerings
Pass a background check
Pass a drug test
Possess and maintain a driving record with less than six (6) points
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities
Physical Requirements:
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, equipment and/or material may be required. Other physical activities may be required.
Prolonged periods standing and walking within the community and other activities.
Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
Must be able to assist consumers who have ph ysical difficulties.
Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist consumers throughout the day.
