POSITION: Instructional Assistant (Non-Special Education)
Salary/Hours:
Pay Scale: Classified Personnel Pay Scale, Grade 4
Contract Length: 186 days, 7.5 hours per day
Schedule: Full-time, unless otherwise specified
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The Instructional Assistant supports students as directed by the classroom teacher, contributing to a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment. This position reports to the classroom teacher and/or designated school administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Associate's degree or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (must be completed within 30 days of hire)
Experience working with groups of children preferred
Ability to support students with diverse learning needs
Ability to follow written and oral instructions related to instructional and behavioral plans
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working collaboratively with students, staff, and families
Ability to assist with classroom instruction and behavior management
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Follow all local, state, and federal regulations, including School Board policies
Assist students as directed by the classroom teacher, including providing small group or one-on-one support
Prepare and organize instructional materials and supplies
Assist with classroom setup, daily activities, and end-of-day cleanup
Observe, manage, and document student behavior; support implementation of behavior plans
Supervise students in the classroom and during activities such as lunch, recess, and field trips
Maintain accurate records including attendance, charts, and supplies
Escort students throughout the school as needed
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
Provide classroom coverage in the absence of the teacher
Support multiple classrooms or instructors when needed
Perform clerical and instructional duties as assigned by the teacher and/or school administration
Other related duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the school
Physical Requirements
Must be able to communicate effectively in person and by phone. Physical demands include: frequent standing, walking, reaching, lifting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion. Must be able to operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, and telephone.
